Re: Neel's Palm Beach 22 build

Thanks Steve and Carl... Still waiting for mahogany.. Hopefully I will be back at it this week. I am about out of things to do prior to installing the chine and sheer. My wife has also figured out that things are a little slow right now in the garage, so she has kindly suggested I do more to help ou...

Re: Neel's Palm Beach 22 build

I have been working on fairing the chine notches all the way from bow to transom on both sides of the hull. Getting it right is a very slow process, and much time spent in the "thinking chair" along the way. Finally the hull is ready for the third lamination of the keel and both chines. I ...

Re: Neel's Palm Beach 22 build

The place where I buy my mahogany is really busy and my latest order won't be ready until next week. So I have been doing some initial fairing of the bottom frames. The most time was spent fairing the two transom bottom members. I had to take a good bit off to make them flow properly into the forwar...

Re: a couple questions about sissy do plans

Donald.... Most use thickened epoxy resin to glue parts together. Glen-L sells it. You can coat everything to encapsulate before you thicken it to glue parts together. As for how to get the lines on the plywood,,, you do that with a large sheet of carbon paper between the full size plan pattern and ...

Re: Building The Vera Cruise

Carl... Just a quick question... When you clamp something with multiple clamps, do you actually measure between each one to make sure they are exactly evenly spaced? If the answer is "yes", you may need to see someone !! Very nice work.

Re: Texas Barrelback 20

Steve-- I don't think you will be happy with an 18 gallon tank. I have a 40 gallon tank in my Gentry with a 5.7 motor. That is an overkill and I usually fill it to about 28 gallons. That gives me a nice cruising range. Figure you are going to get 3 to 4 mpg at cruise speed and maybe 2 to 3 mpg at a ...

Re: Neel's Palm Beach 22 build

Not much to take pictures of at the moment. I have glued the second of three laminations on the keel and waiting for mahogany to finish that up. I ordered enough to do the keel, chines, and sheers along with enough batten material to do the sides. The main reason for this post is that I found a grea...

Re: Gentry build continued

Pawel.... If you decide to build the Gentry, and after you study the plans, I will send you a thumb drive with all the pictures I have of the Gentry. Here is a link to a youtube video of the boat performing with the stern thrusters. You can get a 360 degree view of the boat on this video. https://ww...

Re: Neel's Palm Beach 22 build

Pawel... I built a Gentry first... I stretched it to about 19'. It's a great boat and performs very well with a small block V8. By stretching the design, I was able to put a small cockpit forward of the engine that will seat two. Give that some thought.

Re: Neel's Palm Beach 22 build

Thanks Jenko and Steve....... Pawel-- I originally bought the plans here: http://www.classicwoodenboatplans.com/palm-beach-22-by-nelson-zimmer/ The plans come in PDF format and allow you to take the computer file to have full size patterns printed. You would certainly need these plans to build this ...

Re: Neel's Palm Beach 22 build

Tom, Pawel, and Brad--- Thanks for the compliments Over the weekend I glued all frames in place and additionally, used cleat blocks to secure the "main frames" to the stringers. I think the method for securing these originally was to drill 1/4" holes vertically through the frame and s...

Re: Neel's Palm Beach 22 build

Thanks Bill, Matt, and Carl.... For the last two days I have been leveling, plumbing, lasering, measuring, and looking everywhere to make sure everything is lined up. I don't think I can get it any better. All main frames are resting in place with the exception of frames 3, 6, and 9, which have been...
