Re: A Texan Tubby Tug Build

Gene,

Do you know someone with a lathe? Instead of using PVC pipe cut in half, have a length of wood turned round then cut in half. The round halfs would be soild but after adding the straight sides you would have a hollow section in the middle if needed.

Re: Flying Saucer - Southern Style

Finally got around to gluing the frames together. Next will be laying and cutting out the transom parts. I got sidetracked with home repair and improvements after hurricane Isaac. Hopefully I will be picking up the pace on the build since the major work on the house is completed.

Andy,
Coming along nicely.

I was thinking the same thing about the sub deck, just a lot farther from that point then you.

Re: Oliver IV in dry dock

The mahogany I have in the shop right now is genuine or honduras mahogany. I seen unfinished cedar fences gray with age around here.

Re: Oliver IV in dry dock

I know the unfinished exposed mahogany wood I have in my shop will darken when exposed to light. I think the UV protection might just slow it down. Also my cherry kitchen cabinets have darken over time.

Flying Saucer Transom Cutout & Motorwell

Reposted from my build thread. As I was cleaning up the workshop today (so that I can actually work in it) I have been thinking about the transom cutout and motorwell size. I plan on using a Mercury Mark 30 (30 HP 15" short shaft) on it but want to have enough clearance if I need to put a newer...

Here is the motor I have for it.

Thanks all,

Having the young one involved is half the fun. He is already asking me to build him his own Tubby Tug! :D :D :D

Flying Saucer - Southern Style

I believe it is about time to start a post on my Flying Saucer build. This project was started about April 2011 but quickly got put on the back burner because of other priorities. So what is there to do while waiting for a hurricane to make landfall? Get restarted on building your wooden boat. I hop...
