Re: Bullseye 11 foot

Please post pictures. I recently completed a Glen L - 15. Sailboats by nature are more tipsy. They have a curved bottom athwartship as well as lengthwise. Once seated some lean can be expected and an 11 or 15' boat isn't meant for days that are too windy. Maybe it will just take time to get accustom...

Re: Fancy Free power

I have a 5hp Tohatsu on a Glen-L 15. The motor was about 1200.00 bucks. The 4 is a little less but doesn't come with a external gas tank. I would think that the external 2.5gal. tank would be really nice to have on a Fance Free. Google Tohatsu and you will find a dealer in Tenessee and I can't remem...

Re: Auxiliary power for Glen-L 15 - Sloop

I completed a Glen-l 15 last August. I chose a 5hp Tohatsu. Up to 7hp was recommended but 5 is more than adequate. I chose the 5 because it was as cheap as the 4 and included a external tank (3.5gal). The hull design speed is about 5.5mph. That means that is as fast as it will easily go. It will nev...

Re: kickup rudders? counter weights on CB's?

I have a Glen-L 15 I completed last year. I have a one piece rudder and it is shallow and muddy where I sail. I have had the rudder hit the bottom and it stopped the boat completely. But it hasn't been a large problem. Simple is good too. No damage. I have become a little more careful about where I ...

Re: Bulls Eye vs. Glen-L 14/15/17

Just a thought, I see you are a buckeye too. I live in Toledo and while on a walk today I saw a 18' wooden sailboat for sale. I had seen it before sailing and it has a beautiful shape and I talked to the owner. He says he bought it complete and that it is very old but was refurbished. He is selling ...

Re: Chessie Flyer Trailering Weight

I find it interesting that you are interested in the Chessie Flyer. I am interested too. My needs are a little unusual in that I have a low bridge near my home and I need to hand lower and raise the masts. The Chessie having two masts, each of which is not too tall to handle. Fits the bill for campi...

Re: Finishing the job -- and a question!

Sounds like you have it covered. I started a GlenL-15 last February and finished it last August (mostly). Looks like you are doing a great job. Your finish is going to be better than mine. I have sailed mine quite a bit and I am well pleased with it's performance. I have had a 15' Compact (a tank) a...

Re: Bulls Eye vs. Glen-L 14/15/17

I finished a GlenL 15 last year and it is a great sailer. It has enough deck on the sides that the mast can touch the water and still only a small amount of water gets in, the rudder comes out of the water and the boat pops right back up. It does not fill the bill for overnighting but I don't think ...

Re: What size outboard on a Glen L 14

I just bought a 5hp Tohatsu for a Glen-L 15 and it is way more power than necessary but comes with a 3.5gal tank for 1200$. It is the same as a Mercury. Tohatsu makes Mercury up to 40hp. I looked up a hull speed calculation on the internet and since a sailboat has "rocker" it won't plane and is limi...

Re: Mast Building Glen-L 15

I started my Glen-L 14 Feb 2011 and have been sailing it since Aug 2011. I know your set on a wood mast but I just want to mention a couple of items. I have a fairly low bridge by my home on the water and I can raise and lower the alu mast by myself. I also trailer it and again I can set it up by my...

Re: My Introduction and my first question.

Hey Fellow wood boat enthusiast, I will answer to creekside Bob. I am retired and loving it. I want to start a new project since I finished building my house. I want to start on a skiff. I was looking at the 23 ft V-Dory. However the boat has a beam of 8'-5" which would make it a wide load in Calif...

Re: Glen-L 15 sloop first build.

I started my GL-15 in early Feb 2011. I have built the frames with white oak. It is very strong and holds fasteners extremely well. I occasionally drive nails to hold parts together for duplicating and I have to drill a pilot hole almost as big as the nails. Afterwards they are still difficult to re...

Re: 15 foot sloop...one of yours?

I am currently building a Glen-L 15 and your pictures look like they could be of it. The only thing that doesn't belong is the bow sprit. Could be this was modified for larger jib. Looks like a nice boat.
