buying a used boat/trailer/motor

I'm going to start looking for a used boat in order to get a trailer and motor for my Malahini. Do I have to find a boat that's also 16' or would the Malahini fit on a trailer that was being used for a 14' or 18' boat? I guess I'm just wondering how long the trailer has to be. Thanks for the help!

Re: Bottom to side planking question

Oops! I guess I did miss the shim directions. So if I sand through a couple layers of the bottom planking in order to fair the joint it won't be a problem? I do plan on painting it below the waterline by the way.

Bottom to side planking question

Hi all! I've gotten the bottom and side planking all on, but I'm confused on how to plane/sand the edge where the two meet near the stem. Since the bottom planking is 3/8" and the side planking is 1/4", the bottom sticks out an 1/8" at the stem, where they meet in a butt joint. If I try to plane or ...

Re: epoxy problems

I'm using white oak. The epoxy cures (becomes hard) in the container and is hard around the kerf. Should I be using clamps and silica filler? Maybe I'm clamping too hard? I do believe that maybe my measurements aren't perfect. I'm running low on Poxy Shield so I ordered some West System epoxy becaus...

Re: epoxy problems

I've tried varying amount of silica as filler. Usually about a teaspoon per 5oz. of epoxy, but the last batch I mixed, I hardly put any in. As far as clamping, the kerfs I did yesterday I just put about 10 pounds of weight on the joint holding it together.

epoxy problems

Has anyone had problems with their epoxy not holding? I've had several kerf joints pop apart, sometimes even without any stress. I thought maybe it was too cold so I got a heater and I'm still having issues with it. I've been using the Poxy-Shield 5:1 type. I've read on here several times that the g...

Re: Malahini planking

Thanks guys, I appreciate the quick responses on here! I'll exchange it for the 1/4" and pray to Neptune that it doesn't crack :D

Malahini planking

I bought a bunch of 3/8" Meranti plywood for my Malahini thinking that I had read somewhere that you could use either 1/4" or 3/8" for the side planking. I've been looking for where I had read it, but can't find it. So my question is: Do I have to exchange it (I had to drive quite a ways to get it) ...

Hello,
I'm getting ready to start building a Malahini here in land-locked Colorado.
