Re: connect 18g wire to 16g

Paul: I am using marine heat shrink connectors. That is the first time I've seen step down connectors. I think they will work great. I'll pick up some. Thanks

Re: connect 18g wire to 16g

I believe soldering can not be the sole source of connection.

Re: connect 18g wire to 16g

Just as an aside: If the smallest wire allowed on a boat is 16g unless the 18g can be bundled with other wires, why do many electrical items for boats come with 18g wire? I think my problem would come up often.

Re: connect 18g wire to 16g

I found these https://www.pacergroup.net/bullet-connectors/. I could put the male on the 18 and female on the 16 and heat shrink over the entire connection.

connect 18g wire to 16g

I bought mostly 16 gauge wire to use. I didn't get any 18. My bilge pumps came and they have 18 gauge wire. How do I connect the 16 gauge from my switch to the 18 gauge on the pump? Connectors available are for 18-22 or 14-16. Which should I use? Are there other connectors available that I am not fi...

Welcome Tom. I think you have made a wise choice to get involve with the Glen-L community. First, include your location in your profile. It will help others help you source materials in your area. Next I would get "Boatbuilding with plywood" https://www.boatdesigns.com/Boatbuilding-with-Plywood/prod...

Looks nice Carl. Every time I see photos of your build in the garage, I am amazed at what you are accomplishing in such tight spaces. Everyone who has questions about what they can actually build in their space should look at your posts.

Re: Building The Vera Cruise

Carl: That's too bad. I've been there. You have everything figured out in your head, but when you start the work you look back and say "Damn!!!! That's not going to work!!!!" (Usually in a saltier language.) So it's back to the drawing board or the thinking chair. You are very smart and capable. I k...

Negative bus bars

I am planning on using a 12 circuit fuse box like this https://newwiremarine.com/product/12-ckt-fuse-block-5026/ somewhere near the dash. Negatives run back to built in bus bar. For electrical items that are in the aft of the boat, like anchor light and bilge blowers. Do their negatives have to retu...

I used a hand plane. I don’t always trust my power plane. I think you could use a belt sander or a grinder
