Re: Key Largo Update - Boise, ID

Thanks for the feedback, managed to pick up the motor with transmission for $400, last owner never used it, sitting around for quite a few years as you can see was cut out of the original single prop boat, the boat is still attached!. Does hand turn but will need a complete strip down. Has a new gea...

Re: Key Largo Update - Boise, ID

New question for the group.

Locally there is a Chriscraft 283F motor/transmission for sale, looks like it may be a better bet than the scary donor motor I already have, in size weight etc and the price is good.

Any thoughts on using one in a 20ft Key Largo, as new they were 184HP.

Thanks

Bryan

Re: Key Largo Update - Boise, ID

Flip has happened, lots of help and many hands did make quick and light work of the problem.

And thanks to Mick for the Glen-L Superman shirt that unexpectedly arrived in the mail a few days ago.

Re: Key Largo Update - Boise, ID

Thanks Matt, I ended up about an inch higher on boat than the plan suggested (boat right side up) and have a slight curve as you get towards bow. This way I kept the boot stripe as flat as possible at the sharp change in angle from side to underside at the bow. If I wanted the boot stripe on the sid...

Key Largo- Boise, ID

Couple of pics, ready for flip. Last job was to spray the boot stripe which came out great, setting the tape correctly and masking the boat off was the time-consuming part. I used fine-line tape from an automotive paint supply store, was not expensive and peels off just fine with no residue.

Re: Sheer Clamp question

Know you are done but but as reference for others this worked pretty well for scarf joints - a simple jig for the table saw and then one for glue up allowing easy clamping, wrapped wax paper around so the whole thing didn't stick to the jig. Attached couple of pics.

Re: Barrelback Modifications

Looks great, just another version of complex :}, building the plan version is fun enough. If laid out right don't think the underlying structure is that bad, will be the veneer that will be a little more fun. Also agree with a previous post keep the rudder in situ as you will be too narrow in the ne...

Re: Key Largo Update - Boise, ID

Great picture Jim, and good to know it works. Did you also hit the bottom of the boat with any wax before flipping?

Thanks. Bryan

Copper Bronze Paint ?

I have my first coat of petit copper bronze hard racing paint on hull. (Last minute change from my original plan for green). I have seen that many have varnished over top as the paint does not buff as it states in data sheet to get the high gloss finish. Boat will be in freshwater and be on a traile...

Re: motor stringers for the barrel back

I ordered in two lengths of a vertical grain fir as per plan from a local builders merchant''special order' and then added a ply gusset along its length. It was then encapsulated in epoxy after. Worked great had to use a trick of a spacer board 8ft long that I moved down boat as I installed frames t...

Re: Question: Battens on the Barrelback

Same thing used wall paper steamer in some steel pipe, tried pvc but the steam bent the pipe so moved to steel which I had in the shop.

Good Luck
