Re: Short Shaft Motor or Long Shaft Motor for Zip, which one??

You can easily add an extra 1/2" ply to the transom to resist any added flex of the long shaft. You can also add corner blocks to all the frame work that ties into the top of the transom and motor well. With those additions the forces on the water would not concern me at all. Is your boat already bu...

Re: SEA KNIGHT

Craig, Your boat looks great. My experience in messing with the older motors is they are still worth using for pleasure use. Youll likely have a few teething issues at first with something that needs a little service but I'm sure it can work just fine. I chased some issues with my old 402 Mercury ou...

Re: Bolero wake boat

Wakeboats are indeed fun but they also make the water unpleasant for the classic designs that share the water w...

Re: Question on fairing frame 5 1/2 on a zip

You should be able to keep most of the curve but angle the leading edge of the frame 5-1/2 by removing some of the forward edge of the frame. Sorry these are the best pictures I could find in my archive to help.

Re: Newbie boat builder in Michigan

A boat build is much different from the precision of cabinet making. More art than science. Close enough really is good enough in boat building, don't over fuss it. There are certainly challenges but most are just things a new boat-builder hasn't done before, not that its particularly difficult. Som...

Re: Newbie boat builder in Michigan

Welcome!

Sounds like a good plan. I spent about 730 hours on mine over 18 months, about 10 hours a week. Hope you dont have anything you want to watch on TV the next year or so! :D

Use a good marine paint. Interlux and Pettit have good offerings. I went down the new, latest greatest. Stick to the tried and true been around for decades stuff

Good to see all the new builds here. I had good luck with the South Bend store. Had the Okoume in two sizes I needed in stock.
