Re: Tahoe 23

Thanks Steve, Jamie and Carl. It's getting closer. I hope to have the boat basicly finished by the end of the year except the upholstery and trailer.

Re: Building The Vera Cruise

Carl,
I have only one concern with having non fixed seating. If you are out and the weather becomes rougher, non fixed seating could move and being folding possably collapse. You can get away with it in the mean time but I would be aiming for at least one other fix seat for your wife.

Re: Tahoe 23

Have finished the fit-out of the cockpits and veneered the seats. Completed the ply sub-deck and am starting on the cover boards and king boards. Have made templates for the cover boards and will use these to route the coverboards using a straight router bit with a top guide.

Re: Engine hatch and decking

Thanks everone for your advice. So I am decided. I will cut free the hatch after planking but to assist with placement of the deck boards, after the sub deck ply is glued, I will use a small drill bit and drill up from underneath in each corner of the hatch opening. This should give me an accurate l...

Engine hatch and decking

So when doing the deck (sub deck and planking) do you have the engine hatch in and cut it free afterwards or do you do the engine hatch separately. I believe a lot of builders have the hatch in and I assume the reason for this would be to ensure the camber of the deck and hatch match. But it would s...

Re: Tom's Tahoe

Funny Tom,
They're exactly the same questions I've been wrestling with on my Tahoe for the last month or so. I'll get around to posting some photos soon.

Re: Cutting BarrelBack frames

Seeing that you are cutting out the frames anyway, I would only have the boards dressed on the two faces and not worry about the edges. If you are having the timber milled by someone else it will save a little.

Re: Riviera

Hi Simon I used hoop pine for my frames etc and sapele for the finish planking. I got all my hoop pine from a local joinery works as I did not have the gear to mill my own timber. The sapele was sourced from Britton Timbers, a very large timber merchants, but they appear to only be on the east coast...

It's easy to self isolate when you live in the country. I am about to move on to the electrics and then the deck, so maybe next year we can meet up at Bribie. You and your family keep safe.
PS. If you want to sell the sewing machine let me know.
