Re: "Down Under" projects/potential gathering register

P.S.
If Bill can make it down next year maybe some of us could show him some Aussie hospitality by putting them up and showing them some of the sight. There are enough of us spread around this country to give him value for money.

Re: "Down Under" projects/potential gathering register

Hi Vettepilot Yes I'm about 1hr south of Childers. I used hoop pine which I sources from a joinery company in Maryborough. He is a small family business and had his own stock of clear hoop and milled and dressed to the sizes I wanted. I'm about to glue in the battens, framework for false transom and...

Re: "Down Under" projects/potential gathering register

Is anyone down around the Port Macquarie/Stephens area. 1Central east coast 2Heaps of accommodation 3Lots and lots of marinas to choose from. Only down: Salt to brackish water but other than the northern rivers it is going to be hard to find a freshwater venue with the facilities. Date: October 2013...

Re: Nostalgic Boat Building Quotes

Nothing to do with boatbuilding but true none the less. Two maxims an old bushie told me were: You can make something foolproof, but you can't make it idiot proof! (I guess that's why people take guards off saws etc) You never lift something you can drag and you never drag something you can roll. Ta...

Re: Question for Aussie builders

Hi Trackhappy
I'm halfway between Maryborough and Gympie at an area called Gootchie (No township). Closest township is Gundiah. About 1and 1/2 hours north of you. I'll give Lazarides a call and see what they have got!

Question for Aussie builders

Hi! Building a Tahoe 23 and am up to the longatudinals. Thought I better start thinking ahead about what's available locally (in Aus.) for my final layer of planking. I live about 3hrs north of Brisbane, altough I'll source anywhere in Australia if I have to. My thoughts on choices of timber was a f...

Re: Tahoe keel

Thanks Corey,
That was my thoughts on the subject. I must say I was quite chuffed when I set up the fremes on the stringers and for the first time could actually see the lines. Very pretty and not a bad job if I do say so myself. But I'm not getting to cocky! Pride goeth before a fall!

Tahoe keel

Hi, I am building a Tahoe 23. This is my first venture into boat building. I am from Queensland, Australia. I am up to laying on the keel. In the instructions they say the keel is secured to the frames etc by 3" screws and the laminations are secured by 1" screws. My question is, "Do you glue and sc...

To glue or not to glue, that is the question!

Hi Im about to start setting out the motor stringers on a Tahoe 23. In the instructions it says to use bolts through blocking to secure the frames to the stringers, but no mention of glue. So do you glue the frames/floor timbers into the notches on the stringers and if not is there a reason you shou...

Re: "Down Under" projects/potential gathering register

As the Yanks seem to say "Here's my 2 cents worth" What about Boreen Point on Lake Cootharaba. It has camping and some accomodation. It is the head of the Noosa River with motoring all the way to Noosa Heads. A very pretty spot and for those who have never been there with plenty of scenic short trip...

Blocking for motor stringers

Hi! This is my first build so be gentle with me. I am building a Tahoe 23 and have decided to usw 2"x2" angle iron for blocking instead of wood. Would 1/8'' thick be enough or 3/16"? I'm thicking about weight. 2nd question - Do you glue the floor timbers into the stringer notches or is bolting with ...
