Re: Cold Molding Instead of Plywood Sheeting

I agree. Cold Molding is about building your own plywood, but in a non-conical shape. (In sheet plywood boats, there is always one straight line in the plywood.. In CM boats, there is not) The only reason I would want to cold mold that is that "flat" plywood would not fit around the compound curves ...

Re: A Monaco with an Olds 455 Big Block

Our dock card says 2011 Glen-L instead of home-built. Maybe I'll have that changed for the future. Your current approach is certainly the more "humble" of the two. I offer only personal opinion on this, but I think the dock card should credit both - You as the builder, and Glen-L as the designer. I...

Re: Hi from Barrie on. canada

Moe. Lake of Bays is beautiful. I used to spend a lot of time there. My sister in law had a cottage near Glenmount/Norway Point. I had the Monaco out there last summer... We were visiting friends near Baysville. The weather was great, so I could not resist taking "the long way home" by doing a run a...

Re: Hi from Barrie on. canada

Welcome, Moe. Will you be running the Torpedo on Lake Simcoe? You can hit some waves out there! (I'll wave to you as I scream through Barrie on the way to the cottage this weekend!) I have had my Lo Voltage plans for a few years, but I have not started building it yet. (I keep going back and forth b...

Re: Integrated boarding ladder

They are a cool looking product. They are probably worried about "hack jobs" as people try to retrofit them to existing boats. Maybe Glen-L could stock them, arguing that they represent a community of people who are in the process of building their boats from scratch.... (Or convince them to offer a...

Hi Denon.

Great to hear from you.

For me, flipping was a big deal, so I only wanted to do it once.

Re: Tahoe 19 - deck boards

I cannot answer for Bill.

But your need depends on the depth and width of your grooves.

It is straightforward to calculate the volume of your grooves... Number of grooves x average groove length x groove width x groove height .

Add an allowance for waste, then divide by the volume in each tube.

Re: Spiling and lining off the hull for mahogany

Hi Robert. I made some long strips of cardboard to see where the side strakes would go. (a "strake" is a single row of planks running end to end) Generally, on these hulls, strakes made from straight planks will have a tendency to "swoop" up at the bow and stern. If you want to use straight planks, ...
