Re: recommendations for mohog stain

I hate to be a buzz kill... But for everyone who thinks about staining, I recommend that they step back and reconsider. Do some tests with some scrap wooe, some fiberglass and epoxy, and a few coats of varnish... see how the colour develops. It will darken the wood more then you think. I stained the...

Re: Making bungs

another trick.... so you don't need to chase these things all around your floor... Set the depth stop on your drill press so that your cutting stops about 1/32" from the bottom of the wood. Then all of your bungs will be on a sheet that you can just pull apart with your fingers. The little tabs make...

Hey, BORD...

It looks like you have "caught the bug" on quality hand tools... Have you got your sharpening system sorted yet?

If not, go and search on "Scary Sharp". It is cool when you can count your nostril hairs in the reflection on the cutting edge of your chisel!

Re: 60 HP Zip!!

Hi. Welcome to the forum. If you want to build to suit a specific engine, you could always build a slightly bigger boat that matches the engine rating. https://www.boatdesigns.com/15-Ski-Tow-runabout-and-ski-boat/products/359/ PS. Enjoy the ride! This 'cnaijun' is wishing all you 'mercains' a great ...

Re: "Must Have" tools?

It will probably be easier to cut out the 4 x 8 sheets of plywood with a jigsaw, than maneuvering the sheets over your bandsaw. But you would only need the jigsaw for a day. Perhaps you could borrow one.

Re: Zip seat angle

My car has a six way adjustable driver's seat. I used that to measure the comfortable height and angles for me. (it is likely that your legs will be more horizontal in the boat) Even if your car has a bench seat... if it is comfortable for you, you can use those angles.

Re: "Must Have" tools?

hmmm. Reflecting on this, it is amazing how much you can do with a few simple tools. Because the Dyno Mite is a stitch and glue boat, you can probably get by without at belt sander or router, Other tools that may be "essential" would be a decent handheld jigsaw and a Boat Builders' Bevel Gauge Is yo...

Re: Helm

Uhm.... It is been about six years, so I'm vague on the details of my blunder.... I probably did not read the instructions. Just check which way the cable moves when you turn the wheel. It may be "counter-intuitive". (there may be an extra gear in there that reverses the direction you would expect)

Re: Helm

I have the same helm. I can't remember what it was like before the cable, but with the cable it is awesome. Easy to turn, and "hands off" straight line driving. (Just don't do what I did, and put the cable in backwards... wheel turned right, rudder turned left... DUH!... it is no fun having to re-wo...

I can't speak to the silicon.

Re: Building a 21 foot boat in a 21 foot garage

Dave brings up a good point... part of your "stern in/stern out" decision is that you need to get a trailer under the boat at some point. I recall one builder that did not have the space to turn his boat end-for-end to get it on the trailer. As for the casters..... I agree with what Dave said. For e...

Re: Building a 21 foot boat in a 21 foot garage

Hi Mr. Intense... I built at 19 foot boat in a 20 foot garage. I shortened the design slightly. so that I could squeeze around either bow or stern without opening the door. I built with the transom to the door. I built a movable building form so that I could move the hull back and forth, and side to...
