Re: Rudder authority

I looked at some Buck Algonquin catalog, and the rudder you got is already nearly as big as available. You would have to step up to 1 1/4" rudder post to get a standard rudder noticibly bigger. Inboards handle better if there is a skeg, keel, or on a mahogany a skid fin. The skeg, keel, or fin gives...

Re: finishes

The best finish prep is wet sanding, with potable water. solvent rag washing will dissolve contaminates and leave them behind. damp rag wiping isnt good enough, and, isnt really potable water wash, The way to go is wet sanding with potable water; if you can drink the water you started with, you can ...

Re: Bilge Paint ?

I did not paint the bilge. The bilge is not exposed to the UV sun anyway,
no regrets for me.

Re: Somerset, KY Gentry

Gentry is a very nice build. Neel Thompson has one and I have been in it several times. It is a hoot. Neel's build thread may help you along the way. Congrats on starting a build, you will enjoy the journey. I built Double Eagle, and I found that short sentences in the instructions had a lot of deta...

Re: Boat Show 2019

safety tether??? What? tether to what?, the boat? Such that the boat can drag you along and drown you? Kind of reminds me of the safety harness recommended for deer hunting. They say you need a safety harness secured to the tree that your climbing deer stand is in. such that if your deer stand fails...

Re: Boat Show 2019

I almost went overboard one day. I was offshore by myself and trolling a 5-line spread. I took relief over the side and a rogue wave hit me, I nearly went over. The thoughts going through your mind at such times are awful. What if I got hooked in my own trolling lines? Would anybody ever find me lik...

Re: Boat Show 2019

I'm sure it's just cheaper to pop a boat out of the mold and bolt an outboard to it than installing an inboard. I would bet that the outboard brands have some kind of exclusive deal with the boat shows to only showcase their products. I'm really happy with my new Evinrude 2-stroke. However, sometim...

Re: Boat Show 2019

I was amazed at the stuff that scared me. Nowadays it is popular to have a 'tuna door'. That is a door in the transom supposed to let you drag a big fish up into the boat. I haven't figured that one out yet. I done a lot of blue water fishing, and have as yet to catch something so huge that I couldn...

Re: Boat Show 2019

Why do you need over 1000 HP on the boat that is pulled by a truck with maybe 200 HP? Bill One of the boats was about a 38 footer with triple 350 outboards. The classic 'rug boat". All the cup holders, wine tables in the lounge, et al. I got some pics of it, I thought was interesting all the stuff ...
