Re: Florida Barrelback

Yes seems like just finding the material is going to be pretty much the norm for awhile. Even common framing lumber has been in short supply in NH. Went to Lowes for PT 2x and shelves were empty.
Probably a good idea to find your marine plywood source too.

Re: Stern Light Pole Height

Use the same mount as your “daytime” flag mount and just switch poles when you are operating after dusk

Re: RowMe

The cost of building is pretty quickly forgiven so don't fret (ha) too much over it! All my custom building projects were the same way but you pay a little more for one off stuff. Glad you are still playing guitar. You learned alot by building one! ... that should help you to setup the action of you...

Re: New boat project in Spain (SQUIRT)

Lots of Squirt builds in the blogs as well as the forum so might want to check everything out. As you build many of the concepts come together so once you get your self cutting lumber make sure you take pictures for us!
Have fun

Re: RowMe

Leland- glad to see you still dabbling with the boating bug. That boat should be a really easy way to get into the tougher spots and get those trophy fish!

John-
Nice job on the frames! You’ll never see your garage as dust free as it is now for a few years!
Enjoy the build.

Re: 20ft Texas Barrel

Nice job on the boat and upholstery Matt. Don't forget to vent the seat backs and base so they can get rid of any trapped moisture and don't sound like a whoppie (sp) cushion when you sit on them.

Re: Need primer?

Chris-
I didn't use the primer on mine and the epoxy base coat was fine. I was using the Mercer green (and Clear Gloss on the brightwork), but I suppose over lighter colors, the primer coat first might work better. Can't hurt to use it since you have already bought it.

Re: Building The Vera Cruise

Hi Carl- Just spent some time catching up on your build. It is fantastic! The cabin sides windows roofline and cockpit details fit together so beautifully. Really a well thought out layout and excellent use of space. Like the veneer layups using the vacuum bagging. Wish I had that when I was doing t...

Re: 20ft Texas Barrel

That looks good on the extended winch post. You might want to float the boat off and on rather than winch the boat on as the bow will run into that forward keel guide. I've been there with mine on a shallow ramp and had to put a 2x to run the bow onto the trailer.

Re: Looking for input on scaling down slightly

I would not play with the beam of the boat. I prefer to make your door wider. You will most likely have the trailer wheels and fenders to deal with too.

Boy your boat has really come together nicely! Glad you are on the home stretch. The SS work has really given your boat some character and set it out from the rest! Hope to see it on the launch ramp soon!

Looks beautiful out on the water catching those beautiful sunsets! So glad you are out there putting some miles on Chug a Lug! We had a few nice sunsets out on Lake Winnipesaukee last year. Hope to catch a few this year as things open up again.

Re: 20ft Texas Barrel

Matt-
Many of the boat hatches are simply painted the color of the bilge, so a gray. Sets off the engine and other goodies really nice and easy to maintain. OTOH if you do have some mahogany scrap like Neel suggested that would be beautiful.
