Re: Boat On Trailer

Glen-L's book on making trailers states that a trailer should be loaded so that one (1) person can move the trailer around by hand without any difficulty. I load my stuff with 100 pounds trailer weight and I never have any wagging.

Re: PLYWOOD IN S.CALIF

I also have looked for the elusive 10' Plywood, and the same as you I only found 8' sheets. Scarf joint it if you don't want to use butt blocks per the plan instructions.

Re: HELP! what boat would suit a highschool student?

I'm going to go against the grain here. To me, thinking back when I was a kid, I was given a row boat and I thought it was the coolest thing, ... Until the next day, ... I got tired of rowing in about 15 minutes. While it might be fun and relaxing to some older folks, ... today's youth, is anything ...

Re: Screw Lube?

Steel screws run into yellow pine with 'bar soap' lube corroded very badly, very quickly. I avoid bar soap lube. Um, ... nobody said bar soap is a preservative for steel. Why anyone would use steel fasteners on a boat is a complete mystery to me. I wouldn't even use stainless fasteners that you can...

Re: Screw Lube?

Wax toilet bowl ring... Holds the screws for you too. Works great.. Learned this trick at Wooden Boat School. All I've ever used since. Bob, I would have thought the soft wax would contaminate the wood and cause problems for any epoxy or finish work. I learn something new, ... everyday. Look...

Re: Super Spartan, ... Done My Way, ... With Tons of Picture

Well, ... I took out the Super Spartan and my newly acquired Wetback yesterday. It was a bag of mixed emotions. First, everything was going great, took each boat out for about 15 minutes at a time, alternating the boats. Then the unthinkable happened, Someone drowned at the lake and they had a helic...

Re: paint over epoxy

You should wait at least two weeks before painting over fiberglass. It is gassing out for quite a while and will ruin your paint if you apply it too soon. Roberta +1  However, ... that time can be cut to (1) week in the summertime when day time temps are consistently over 85*. Regards Bill

Re: Screw Lube?

If, they are pre-drilled correctly, you should have little issues. If any further assistance is needed, as mentioned above, a bar of soap is the ticket.

My inner Redneck found a way out.

Hey All, Well, it appears my inner redneck found a way out. Who knew I even had a redneck side considering I grew up and lived my life around the SoCal beaches. Anyhow, I have been wanting to get a double or triple boat trailer for some time now but most of them are in the northwest or on the east c...

Re: Builders Who Make Wooden Templates Of Boat Frame Compone

Yes, I have seen those builds, and Yes, they are beautiful. But a set of templates did not make those boats there beauties that they are. It was by spending the countless hours in the intricate details, and I'm sure the builders themselves will tell you the same. Look, ... I'm not saying templates d...

Thought this forum was for a polite exchange of ideas and exchanging knowledge, NOT judging. Just how did you come to the conclusion that "I'm" judging? If you are supremely confident in your skills and have very high quality tools going direct from pattern to finished product IS quicker, no argume...
