Re: Last Month!

Hi Mark, I have had the Precision 21 since 2000. It sails and points very well. It is lively and pretty fast. Balance is good and little weather helm unless the kick up rudder slips upward (which it does as the jam cleat gets worn as mine is.) It also sails well in very light air. It has a stub keel...

Re: Last Month!

Sorry to say, I'm not going to attend. My goal was to finish my Minuet and be able to sea trail this fall and bring it to the gathering to show it off. A combination of the economy, need to do some major house work myself, and a health issue, caused me to suspend working on my Minuet, so I will have...

Re: When you can't work on the boat....

I had no sewing experience beyond helping my wife clean and oil her Berninas when she used to be a weaver and made clothing with her woven fabrics. You will get the hang of it all. I bought several books on canvas work and the Sailmaker's Apprentice book. I also bought The Sailrite booklet series on...

Re: When you can't work on the boat....

I have a Sailrite LSZ-1 machine. I do like it alot. The walking foot is very handy with slippery dacron sailcloth. Even with the walking foot I can have lines of stitches drift. I have the monster wheel for it and it has been great for punching though heavy multiple fabric layers. I have used it to ...

Re: Research about Amigo

I think the reasons that not too many are building this boat are several: 1. It is a little specialized being such a compact offshore/coastal cruiser. Tends to be built by people expecting to solo or couples cruise. 2. the larger the boat, the more commitment of time and money to build. This, for it...

Re: Research about Amigo

There is an interesting web site to calculate differences between boats. http://www.image-ination.com/sailcalc.html There is a database of many boats that you can select to compare against each other. It has the Amigo22 Gaff in its list, and the Flicka. Amigo22 Gaff / Flicka LOA 22 / 20 LWL 19.24 / ...

Re: Minuet - Paint Scheme Help?

"Rob, when you said leave it natural. Do you mean the plywood or adding a strip-deck of some sort? Also, how is Double Nickel coming along. I remember several months ago you said you were having to put it aside for work stuff. I would love to see or get some updated photos. Would you mind sharing?"...

Re: Minuet - Paint Scheme Help?

What I always liked about that design is that it lengthened the cabin space and also added some height to the back. I am doing the same with my minuet, though the cabin roof will have a different profile. I measure things and decided i would be sitting with my head bent in the cabin following the pl...

Re: Minuet - Paint Scheme Help?

For my Minuet, Double Nickel, I am planning on a Forest or Hunters Green on the topsides, and almond white on decks and cabin roof and cockpit floor. I also plan to let some natural wood show on cabin sides and coaming sides - at least at first. Later i may switch to paint. I do not know if i will g...

Re: River Run 2009 // Delta Queen

LOL,

Well, the Delta Queen may be big, but compared to the American Queen that stops in La Crosse and blots out the sun, at 418 feet and Wiiiiiddddeee as a barge tow, the Delta Queen seemed petite.

Re: River Run 2009 // Delta Queen

I have seen the Delta Queen a number of times as it called in La Crosse Wisconsin. I never got a chance to go aboard. It is the epitome of a real riverboat. The bigger "floating motels" such as The American Queen may be more efficient (except in this economy) and the are fun to see as well, but, for...

Re: "Are you sewing a Sailrite kit,or from scratch? " I am going to use Sailrite kits. I have had an Ultrafeed LSZ for several years and have made a Storm jib for my Precision 21 and have done some sail repairs with it. This winter I bought several books on sail technology and hope to get to the poi...

2009 gathering

Well, I plan to attend, and I plan to tow my newly completed (I Hope) Minuet "Double Nickel" to the gathering. It is my goal to complete the boat this summer. I have made some progress on building a trailer (from Glen-L plans) for it and as soon as the weather here in Western Wisconsin moderates, I ...

Re Doldrums

It will help if we can get some temperatures above negative numbers to get my boat building restarted. Epoxy and fingers both work better around room temperature.

Looking forward to the 2009 Gathering

I now have a goal for finishing my Minuet (Double Nickel) and trailering it to the gathering. I was hoping to have it finished and taking it this last year, but that was too optimistic. Sometimes one needs a deadline to work to.

It will be fun to meet others who have done what I have been doing.
