Re: Which boat?

I have found a couple wood sources within a few hour drives, and an online source for wood http://marine-plywood.us/index.htm so that doesn't seem like an issue. Reading the material list for all of the boats I have considered, I notice that Exterior grade plywood can be used on the topside and I ca...

Re: Which boat?

Well this is why I havn't bought study plans yet, because I'm so undecided on a boat. chinook with an I/O 140 sounds good, but perhaps it's too big. Looking more into the reality, this boat is going to be a weekend cruiser, and a simple propane stove and some hot dogs in an ice box will do for food....

Re: Which boat?

What I think I'll do is buy the study plans here soon, and the full size plans in a month or so. That will give me some thinking time, and time to acquire some stuff. I could get some frame sections done in spare time over the winter, along side my Ratrod.. I have a couple other projects that need d...

Re: Which boat?

Also, given the research I'v been doing. I'm confused as to what plywood needs to be used to for hull planking? how is it bent, or is it just forced into shape? I think it's a good thing now that I wait a year to build it, cause I have to locate suppliers and everything else. I'v found a few supplie...

Re: Which boat?

Thanks guys, that pretty much settles it. Chinook it is.. Could the pilot house be extended like I wanted, or would that not be a good idea? I'm only looking for enough room for a sink and microwave, just enough commodities to make Ramen noodle soup... I guess I could rig it for fishing gear too, A ...

Re: Which boat?

The only reason I mentioned the Bingo is because it's design is so simple. I could fish off it if I had to but more than likely, if I built it, my rod and reel would stay on the shore. I've been on many boats, and a size of like 16-20' would be where I think I want to be. I don't want to go too larg...

Which boat?

Within a year I'd like to build a boat I think I've narrowed it down to the Stitch and glue method. I have an old console skiff vid and have studied it.. I normally work in metal, but saws all's jig saws, circular saws etc.. I have all of that, and I have done some wood working. I just don't want to...

New member from NY

I'm Matt and I'm from NY. Been around boats my entire life tho I have never owned 1 ( my dad has had several ). Haven't been able to get out on 1 of my dads boats in the last couple of years. I've been doing some hotrod projects. Currently have a scratch built Rat rod going together, and depending i...
