Re: Making progress on my Monaco.

Jim, I have storage under the front seats, in the bow area, and storage on both sides of the engine compartment. You can see what I did on and around page 23 of this posting. There is access to the storage compartments beside the engine compartment from both the front and rear cockpits. It is open t...

Re: Making progress on my Monaco.

Thanks everyone for the very kind comments. I really appreciate it. I am getting close to the launch. The rain has finally let up for now. Hopefully the ground will dry up soon so I will be able to get the boat back in the shop. I am a little nervous keeping it outside (under cover) but I don't have...

Re: Making progress on my Monaco.

FINALLY got the boat back from the upholsterer. I didn't think he would ever finish! I am very happy with the results, so it was worth the wait. He first told me it would take about a week and a half. The first two weeks were a total waste. I paid him and expected him to order the material the next ...

Re: Making progress on my Monaco.

Brian, like Bill, I caulked the seams. At first I was thinking of using solid wood but I wanted to stain my deck boards. There is no way I could use the white wood in the seams and still stain the decking. If I glued the white wood to the deck boards first, I wouldn't have been able to stain them. I...

Re: Making progress on my Monaco.

Brian, thank you for the very kind comments! I would love to come to Hawaii and help! It was a pain to get the sheer rail piece to mate up seamlessly with the sides. I was able to use a router with a nylon bearing to finish about half of the length of the strip. The rest I did with a electric planer...

Bill, it is interesting that the Yamaha unit is reading exactly twice what the other one is reading. Sounds like there is a setting on the Yamaha unit for the number of cylinders your engine has and it is not set correctly. Skip

Re: Desperado / Renegade Questions

Neal, welcome to the forum. I don't know anything about outboards so can't be of any help on that question. I just wanted to introduce myself. I am building a Monaco and live in Dripping Springs, TX, just a little southwest of Austin. Another builder, Carl, is building a Vera Cruise, which uses an o...

Re: Making progress on my Monaco.

Thanks for all the great comments and tips! I have another question. Who did you use for insurance? I have been checking into various companies and would appreciate any recommendations. I have a quote request in to Hagerty, BoatU.S., and Heritage Marine. Heritage has replied with a quote but has sin...

Re: Building The Vera Cruise

I know the feeling Carl! Hopefully the week will go by fast. It is supposed to start cooling down so hopefully by the time you are better, it will be more pleasant to work in your garage. Skip
