Re: Making progress on my Monaco.

Thank you all for the tips. I will wait till I recover the boat a few times to see if I will need the guides. Got the windshield installed today. Went with pre-war brackets I found on ebay a year or so ago. Skip

Re: Making progress on my Monaco.

Got the trailer back today from Magnum. Looks very nice and it towed much better. They shortened the transom end and lengthened the tongue to get the correct balance point. There is now somewhere around 300lb of tongue weight. They also corrected the bow stop, but went a little too far in my opinion...

Re: Downeast Monaco Utility build

Great progress Nick. That is great that you got to meet Alan. His Monaco has been the inspiration for mine. He told me once that his inspiration was Rich Coey's Monaco. It is really great that we can help each other on this forum. We have been emailing back and forth for several years and my boat wo...

Re: Making progress on my Monaco.

Thanks Alan and Roberta. Roberta, the main reason I was taking the trailer back was to have the bow stop redone. It was then that I noticed the trailer tongue weight was about zero. Skip

Re: Making progress on my Monaco.

Well, got the bad news I was expecting from the trailer manufacturer. After they looked at the boat on the trailer they decided that the wheels were positioned about 24 to 30 inches too far forward! That was a huge mistake and they aren't sure yet how it happened. The owner of the company told me to...

Re: Making progress on my Monaco.

Thanks Bill. That is the number that the trailer manufacturer told me also. Right now I don't think it is even 5%, and that doesn't even include the extra 150 pounds of fuel that will go in the tank at the transom. I think they put the wheels in the wrong location and can't wait to hear their explan...

Re: Making progress on my Monaco.

Today I was able to pull the boat out for its first time in the sun! Made the trip to the trailer manufacturer without incident even though it was quite scary! I don't think there is enough tongue weight. Hope they can sort that out while it is there. Getting closer to first splash. Skip

Re: Making progress on my Monaco.

Thanks Carl. The boat show was my goal. It is the first weekend in October. I have the engine installed. I installed it before I lifted the hull onto the trailer. At first I was going to put the boat on the trailer then install the engine, but discovered I didn't have enough head height to lift the ...

Re: Making progress on my Monaco.

Thanks for the information on the glass. I will most likely go with 1/4" laminated, but will check with the local glass companies to see what they can and cannot do. Big step today. I lifted the boat up off its carriage and stood back for a few minutes to see if the roof beams would carry the weight...

Re: Making progress on my Monaco.

Thanks Matt! I have been a woodworker for many years and I needed a place to "play", so I built the shop about 25 years ago. I extended the shop a few years ago to have room to build the boat. I have a question for the group. I am making the templates for the windshield now. What type of glass is no...
