Re: Windshield material

Matt, both plexiglass and lexan will scratch easily. I used laminated glass (1/4" thick) for my windshield. I don't recall what the price difference was between laminated and tempered, so I can't tell you what is cheaper. I just didn't see the need to used tempered. If you drop anything on the edge ...

Carl, I know it is a long drive, but you are more than welcome to come back over to use my planer for your slats. Definitely a lot cheaper than you buying a planer! Skip

Re: Malahini router or not

You definitely need a perpendicular edge to use the router, so that is out. I used my random orbit sander and did it by eye on all the areas where I didn't have a perpendicular edge to run the bearing on. If you want a really consistent edge you could draw a pencil line down the length of the sheer ...

Re: Key Largo cold mold question

Yes, I would use the 1/4" staples in the field for the second layer. I also used them for the third layer in the field, but you could use your 3/8" there if you want. I pressed hard on the layers with the nose of the stapler to push the second layer down to the first layer before I fired the stapler...

Re: Key Largo cold mold question

Are you really using 1/8 Okume? All the okume I bought was in millimeters. I used 4mm thick for the bottom which is about .025" thicker than 1/8. If you are using 4mm, you won't have much of a problem with the staples punching through. If you are using 3mm, then you could have some penetration, but ...

Re: Prop shaft hole question

JT, before you do anything, try to find other Monte Carlo builders who have already done this. If you go to the Glen-L website, up near the top of the home page is a heading called "Boatbuilder Blogs". Hover over that with your mouse and another heading will show up called "Project Registry Archives...

Re: Building The Vera Cruise

Carl, I have a circle cutting attachment for my router that would make cutting out the ring pretty easy. I also have a router table that could be used to do any edge treatments to the ring that you would need. Let me know if that would be of help. Skip
