Re: Console Skiff build

Hi Footer, The Sea Knight frames are demolished, I salvaged a little plywood and mahogany. It was designed and drawn with a tight motor well not suited for today's 4-stroke motors, steering tilt tubes, engine maintenance and operating envelope. If you are interested in the Sea Knight there are folks...

Re: Console Skiff build

The Console Skiff and trailer cost estimate is coming in at $15,000 versus $9,000 for the dory I built in 2001. 3/4"x4'x8' Hydrotek Meranti marine grade plywood $152.59 a sheet and $83.84 for AB marine grade Douglas fir. BC (British Columbia Canada) softwoods have been hit hard by Trump tariffs here...

Re: Console Skiff build

Thank you Bill. I drew the 33" motorboard in on the pattern sheet today and uncrated the Sea Knight frame kit and set it up on saw horses before I salvage it. It was built by Glen-L shop foreman Alan a long time ago then Gayle shipped it to me in 2005 when I bought the last one. I see patches and vo...

Re: Console Skiff build

I pulled the Wee Hunk form #9 and Sea Knight frame kit from the back of the garage where it has been for 15+ years. It looks like I can salvage make mahogany cleats from the frames; transom knee, motor board from the old transom and form #7 from the shipping crate. Shame to cut it up but I don't wan...

Console Skiff build

I chose a motor, found a good price, found a Suzuki rigging manual to redline the operating envelope in the motor well. My last boat build was 20 years ago I forgot how much I enjoy the whole process. @fishyskiff your boat build thread is very helpful and you are a great saltwater fisherman. Thank y...

Re: Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas to you to Bill Edmundson and Billy C. I am so happy I built my Glen-L Wee Hunk (Pegasus), hosted a few West Coast Rendezvous so I could meet folks and see their boats and participate in this forum community. I hang out a lot in a local fishing forum now and I have gotten a couple of ...

Re: New Member

Steve, I assume you are bringing that big Klondike to the Pacific Ocean to berth and launch, Santa Cruz, Monterey or San Francisco? Will you allow spectators like me that live near the coast to come watch if I keep my hands in my pocket, lips zipped except for an occasional awe and me and my dogs st...

Here is the picture of Pegasus at Orwood Resort about 12 miles south of Bethel Island in the California Delta. I hit my 3 picture limit with the ocean pictures in the previous post.

Didn't launch Bodega Bay last week, 26 mile Delta run

I drove up to Bodega Bay to go crabbing in my Little Gem (Homer) with 5hp Nissan outboard last week but held at the ramp due to low visibility. Monday I took my Wee Hunk (Pegasus) on a 26 mile Delta run. The sturgeon, catfish, striped bass and black bass are starting to get active in the Delta. I ha...

Re: 8-10 foot swells outside Bodega Harbor in Little Gem

Solving the equation the sum of the moments about the center of gravity =0 for a body not in motion I am comfortable with the 55# 5hp Nissan 4-stroke when I keep the fuel in front of me and the 5 gallon bucket of crabs, sea water and my bubble box in the bow. I'll make a You Tube video of me carryin...

Re: 8-10 foot swells outside Bodega Harbor in Little Gem

How good of you Gayle to remember the Alfred Hichcock "The Birds" movie filmed in Bodega Bay. As with anywhere near the ocean I keep a hat on my head and my bait in a locked iGloo cooler, I have had those sea gulls steal my bait and come back around and drop a warm white sea gull poo on me :( Bodega...

Re: 8-10 foot swells outside Bodega Harbor in Little Gem

MinnKota Endura 50# thrust trolling motor connected with Fry's 10 gage speaker wire to Costco Marine Deep Cycle 85 amp hour battery 1 and battery 2 in the bow. It makes for good weight distribution and freeboard but no margin for extra speed needed yesterday.

8-10 foot swells outside Bodega Harbor in Little Gem

It was raining and 8-10 foot swells in Bodega Bay, I should have known the breakers were good when I saw surfers putting on wet suits and heading with their boards to the beach. I got past the jetty, I didn't mind the swells and the boat was taking it well but I was only going 1-2mph with my 50# thr...

I didn't make this video but it shows Bodega Bay where I have been crabbing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jrfMBq-XNDk Rockfishing closed 1 Jan but salmon should open 15 April. I like your boat Denzil I saw it in the launch ramp topic sec...

Re: Bodega Bay crabbing in Little Gem

Hi Billy, I have not made any more guitars, just that 1 Grizzly kit steel string. I take the justinguitar.com youtube lessons but I need to get into a routine practice schedule so I can play a song. I took Homer out yesterday, 9.1mph with the 5hp 4 stroke max and 3.6mph with the 50# thrust trolling ...
