Got some new photos of the boat and finished and ready.

http://s7.photobucket.com/albums/y283/JamHar/ Hi All, just added some new photos of the boat and improvements that I made with the long engine, should have been a short shaft but I think the riser will work okay as it is well bolted and screwed into the transom. Made up a new dash for the tach and s...

Thanks for the comments on the boat. Being it was my first attempt I know I made some mistakes here and there but nothing that couldn't be worked around. I placed some nails at places that I wish I had never done but guess I will learn from the mistakes onto the next one. I did make some of my own c...

Denon That I don't know about as I am dumb about things right now. The last boat engine I had was in 1963 of decent size. Johnson 35hp. On this Mercury there is a extra tube that sticks out the back of the lower section that is plugged and my neighbor told me it was for the speedometer. I will check...

Got the boat on the trailer today, Super Spartan.

Hi All Well after some rework of the lumber I put on the trailer for holding the boat and hooking up the controls, gasoline, batterry and etc. I was finally ready to crank it up and see what happened. Crank, Crank. Nothing so I disconnected the primer line and removed the fitting that goes to the en...

I am going to go ahead and get a tach for the engine as being a mechanic I like to know what is going on with things. I am sure the speedometer will be off but I have two options for that, one is to use the output on the Mercury engine or use the device that hangs on the stern that came in the kit. ...

Getting concerned about the weight of the gear aft.

Hi Guys and Gals Okay I made the Super Spartan and am going to hang a 40HP Mercury on it which I found to be around 218 lbs. The plans called for a 35HP motor which I done some scouting and found most weighed in around 185 lbs. So now I have a battery that feels like it's weighs 50 lbs and then a ga...

Look at the print carefully as on regular blueprints the dotted lines are hidden lines and are the full extension of that part. Being a machinist for many years I was somewhat disappointed in the blueprints that I received for not having enough information. Just for your information, keep the bluepr...

I am working on a patch for the cable exit right now. I have some rubber roofing material that is used for seaming the rubber roofs together and it is quite sticky and flexiable and I do believe it will make a excellent boot with a couple pieces cut to fit. I positioned the cable support clamp so th...

Finally got the steering sytem installed but I did not want to use a cable system with pulleys for good steering in case I need it. LOL So I opted for a Teleflex cable, got a 10' one as that is the shortest they had. Of course I had to do some rework and finally got it straightened out. I had to pun...

Is it a good idea to have a tachometer for the engine?

I just purchased a 40HP mercury engine to install on my Super Spartan and was wondering if a tachometer would be a good thing to install. I do have a speedometer but I was thinking that a tach would and might be a plus for not over reving the engine. New to much of this so sure don't want to mess th...

I did not opt for the water sealing stuff as it has lots of wax in it and more than likely cause problems with gluing. I super coated my boat with three coats of varnish on the inside before I installed the top decking. I am sure if I make another one I will seal it with epoxy as this was a learning...

Just finished up the Super Spartan

New here to this forum but so far from the reading it seems to be a very friendly place for questions and answers. Just from the reading I have already found some answers to questions and I am sure from the responses if I have questions they will be answered quite quickly. I found the blueprints to ...
