Re: Jimmy's Guitar building on the go....

Thank you one and all for the nice comments. I started yesterday on another D style guitar and making the box out of the zebra wood, Spuce top, mahogany neck. Hoping this one will go together okay too. I think the zebrawood does not resonate as good as I thought it would so I am thinning the wood do...

Re: Jimmy's Guitar building on the go....

Well finally got the damn things done and working half decent. I had some problems with both necks on these two guitars and may have been from sitting out in a cold shop all winter. Both necks were twisted just a bit on the high E string side and I had to clamp and heat the necks to take out the twi...

Re: Jimmy's Guitar building on the go....

Hi Bruce As you can see the huge dreadnaught is just a plane Jane, did not even try to put on a rosette this time. The guitar was over sized for sure and I was in doubt about the sound of it so did not want to put a whole lot of effort into it and it be a bag of worms too. I need to do a little fing...

Re: Jimmy's Guitar building on the go....

Thanks Bill...there for a spell things were looking pretty bleak and I was getting to be a unhappy camper for sure. Since the bicarb kicking in I sure feel much better and am hoping that will continue to work okay. Kind of funny they tell you to get off the Salt and turn around and give me a double ...

Re: Jimmy's Guitar building on the go....

Hi All Well got back into the mood swing for working on the guitars and it sure make a difference too when the shop is warm and not 30F in there with cold hands and feet. I finished up the big jumbo but still need to do some tweaking on it to get it setup right and also let the laquer setup good and...

Re: More work getting done..

Can't do much out in this crappy weather as of yet, 1-4" of snow coming tonight. Getting to old anyway for fighting the outside weather.

Re: Jimmy's Guitar building on the go....

Thanks to all of your guys for looking out after me... I started getting some bad cramps again in the arms and hands the last couple of days and had even doubled up on some of the meds trying to get rid of the damn things but the only thing that has helped so far is a heating pad. I called my doctor...

Re: Jimmy's Guitar building on the go....

Sorry no updates of lately. My shop was just to damn cold to be spending a lot of money to heat up and then getting cold again over night and then do it all over again. I am waiting for some warmer weather so I can attack those 3 instruments and try and finish them up and getting them playable. My o...

Re: Jimmy's Guitar building on the go....

Ken I was just eyeballing your nice site you have and those guitars you are working on. Some fantastic work you have done for a realtive new comer in the business. I hope you keep up the nice work for many years and make some happy people along your travels in life. I suppose it is to bad that one c...

Re: Jimmy's Guitar building on the go....

Oh to be able to play like that little gal did. She sure has the technique down too with the small hands she has yet and she gets a good spread with the fingers to catch the notes. Once when I was doing a lot of playing back in the 70's I was invited to a party to play a little for them and I had ma...

Re: Jimmy's Guitar building on the go....

Moving right along again. Had to take yesterday off as I was really feeling quite crappy. So today I got the dove tail joint cut in on the jumbo and installed the neck and fingerboard making sure all is aligned right and I epoxied those items. I put some side braces in on the classic to prevent any ...

Re: Jimmy's Guitar building on the go....

Some more progress with the two instruments. Installed the wood banding on the jumbo, installed the linings in the classic, coated the jumbo top with a wash of epoxy thinned with acetone, and installed the back braces in the classic. If you will look close you will see that I installed individual bl...

Re: Jimmy's Guitar building on the go....

Here are some more shots for the day. Making progress so far on two instruments at the same time as while one is gluing then prepping the other one for some other action. So for today gluing on the back and top to the jumbo, installed my marker inside the jumbo, carved the classic head stock today a...

Re: Jimmy's Guitar building on the go....

Also while I am spouting off the 1/2" under cut on the side bender waist for the classic worked out real good and fit the form very nice. I should have done that for the jumbo as I think it would have gotten a closer fit but I still am happy with the results so far. I got the linings done on the jum...
