Re: Is this a Zip or is is a Flying Saucer

There are many builds described in the forum to help in how things are done and ask away. Here is how I did my Zip. The Flying Saucer can ...

Re: Is this a Zip or is is a Flying Saucer

Welcome to the Forum!

Based on the dimensions it is likely a Flying Saucer. The Zip is just over 14 feet in length. If the hull is sound, it would be a fun project to refinish and have fun with.

Even well made butt joints don't look bad. Also best to taper the joint to prevent shrinkage in the joint. Ro...

Re: Motor stringers

I used four quarter white oak sandwiched between 9mm Okoume plywood ((both sides) nailed and glued. Rock solid stable and straight as an arrow. You could do this with Sapele.

Re: attaching ply subdeck

I always test fit all the sub-decking before gluing it down. I use enough screws in strategic places to ensure it lays down properly. Re-fair if needed. I use the ring shank nails whenever I can, but if it takes all screws to get it right, that's what I use. I also would not trust just the glue, esp...

Re: attaching ply subdeck

You could save some money and time using ringshank nails for most anchoring. Pre- drill in either case. Best to follow fastener schedules, as Tom suggested, if you have one.
