Re: Zip Decking, final months.

Wow!! Is it any wonder why people are having less and less faith in the ability of our government to get things right? More beauracracy, more big government, that's the ticket.

Re: any riggers out there?

30 miles SW of Milwaukee, WI.

I've seen worse rigging. You do what you gotta do and improvise.

Re: any riggers out there?

I wouldn't call that stupid. Stupid wouldn't have built that beautiful boat. More like oversite. You never make mistakes if you never do anything challenging. You'll figure it out.

Re: Trailer for Zip

Hi Pirate, I have inquiries to four local marine dealers regarding EZ loader and Shorelander as possibilities. Thanks for the headsup, though. I'm getting quotes on both. Both look like good trailers. I'm in no hurry, so I have lots of time to look. I'm hoping that the off season will get me some de...

Re: Zip Framing Method

Thanks, everyone. All good ideas. Probably will go with the gusset lap as it seems to be an OK joint and one I am most comfortable doing.

Re: Trailer for Zip

We'll be traveling to the gathering on Friday and heading back on Saturday. We'll probably drive through Chicago and down I-65 to Nashville, then on I-24. We'll both prbably be at the G4 at the same time. But thanks for the opportunity.

Zip Framing Method

I have all the frame members cut now and am getting ready to assemble them. I am leaning on using the lap joint with gusset as shown in the plan sheet as opposed to using the double gusset method. My reasons are: I like the extra support along the longitudinals. I think it is stronger. I think I can...

Re: Trailer for Zip

Hi Dave, I'm still several months from flipping the boat, so I'm in no hurry just yet. I'm just researching and looking at all the options out there at this point. If I find what appears to be the best choice for my needs, I would buy it. We will be at the gathering (no boat, though) and I would cer...

Re: Trailer for Zip

Dave, It looks very nice, but the one I am interested in has step platforms on the sides for access to the boat when on the trailer and it will be easier to add side bunks and guides.

Thanks anyway,

Re: Trailer for Zip

Thanks, Pirate. I hadn't run across that blog before.

I think I will order the plans and that book. Even if I don't build a trailer, they will help me in modifying anything I may buy.

Re: Trailer for Zip

Hi Pirate, I really appreciated your comments. I hadn't considered the stiffness of the springs and damage that could be done, so that was very helpful. We have several spring shops in the area, so I will look into it. Right on about the welding on galvanized steel. We used to grind it off before we...

Re: Trailer for Zip

Hey Pirate, If I were to buy the perfect trailer for the Zip, what one would be the best with the least amount of modification? I would like it to have 14" wheels and tires and 4 bunks. Do I really need four bunks for the Zip? For the price of $950.00 This trailer seems to be a good compromise as it...
