Re: Part out a ski boat

The other nice thing about buying a proven boat is you have a "recipe" to help you with engine positioning, rudder offset and location, water pick up location and probably a small skeg/fin as well.

Re: Part out a ski boat

Matt; I used the prop, rudder, strut, steering system, water pick up( had to buy a shorter steering cable). Shaft was too short. And of course, there are all kinds of little brackets, etc. that are invaluable.

Re: Weight of a finished Gentry

Nope! Does not include trailer. I have a 351W Ford which is I think slightly heavier than the small block Chevy, but the weight came out very close to what I "guessed". The aluminum Edelbrock manifold cut off quite a bit of weight but brought other problems with it.

Re: Part out a ski boat

Matt; That is exactly the donar boat I bought for my Gentry. Only difference mine was basically a scrapper with a very good 351W Ford engine that appeared seized. Actually the starter was fried but I bought the whole thing for CDN.$800. I sold $1500 worth of parts off it. The rest went to the dump. ...

Weight of a finished Gentry

Just in case anybody is wondering, I just had the Gentry weighed. Loaded with 15 Imp. gallons fuel, life jackets, fenders, lines, total weight is 2266 lbs.

Re: Monaco Restart

Recently there was a discussion regarding a shaft that failed, and the consensus was that there was too much shaft extending past the bearing, allowing too much flexing. In my opinion, 5" is way too much gap. I'd check in to that and consider shortening the shaft.

Maybe Roberta will chime in.

Re: Rudder transom bracket

Andycapp. CC Marine handles Buck Algonquin and they list "rudder ports - inside mount" in various sizes. Contact them for a local dealer. I deal with them and they are a great distributor.

Re: Gentry in Colborne ON.

Managed to get the Gentry in the water and running today, but too winy to take her off the trailer. (large clumps/islands of bullrush floating by!)
Ran the engine for about an hour and did some adjustments. Will need some more tweaking but sounds real good.....love that cam lump!

Mr. Hot Rod????

I believe Paul Kane lives in or near Hudson Quebec. Has anyone heard if he has been adversely affected by the massive flooding that has been destroying homes in that area?

Trying to launch the Gentry and all the ramps in my area are under water!

Re: Windshield material

As I had previously mentioned, Tender Craft Boats has/had chrome plated bronze bracket set for around CDN$600. For you
"Mericans" take 35% off that! Check online for pics.

Re: Bonding problems

Bill; I got myself in to trouble by wiping down with lacquer thinner before applying and the results were disastrous. Had to sand off completely and start over. Such a simple miss step can cause a pile of pain. Hope this avoids the same for some one else.
