Re: Making progress on my Monaco.

I did not run a heavy fuse and didn't bond anything. I think those electrical specifications are for boats of a certain size. But its been a while and I don't remember where I saw that. In fact.. the only high gauge wires are to the starter, right? I think everything else was significantly smaller g...

Re: Seattle Barrelback progress

I used 4200 because it at least has a slim chance of coming apart..
5200 is permanent. Like death and taxes permanent.

Re: Making progress on my Monaco.

Some people do two pumps - a big for issues and a small for low water.

Unless you keep it uncovered, you should not get water in the hull.. I got the sealed bearing packing... zero drip on that..
I never get water really.

Re: Roberta's Torpedo

Great work!

Looking forward to the action shots too.

I'll repeat what was said earlier - the design would not be one I would have chosen - but you changed my mind! Great looking in form and execution.
When the local TV station comes out - send us a link to the story :)

Re: Curing too fast

Epoxy cures by generating its own heat (exothermic reaction) The thicker it is in all directions (like in a cup vs. a pie plate) the more heat it generates.. heat = cures faster. It is the exact opposite of latex paint... a gallon of opened paint will stay wet for hours/days.. put it on a wall and i...

Re: Barrelback 20'

I thinned down to heavy cream.
You need to use a coarse cloth and really buff it off. More like waxing a car than traditional staining
I used cloth to rub it on too. a roller may be a bit to heavy. But you have been there already.

Re: Barrelback 20'

Wipe it with something that will not lift the stain - not sure what you are using - but mineral spirits, alcohol, etc.. looking at it wet will show you what the end result will be. When it is dry - it can look really bad... If you used the Interlux stains - it has to be reduced to be used - and even...

Re: Making progress on my Monaco.

Hi Skip, I encapsulated my frames - which I hated every second of - when they were on the bench.. Then I discovered CPES (way back in 2002-2003) and I didn't bother encapsulating anything with standard epoxy after that.. After I turned my hull, I CPES'ed the interior twice, then sprayed 3 coats of v...
