Re: Squirt in Minnesota

Thanks Chris…I’m just hoping is looks almost as good as your Zip. :) Ron, your Squirt is coming along nicely. I’m glad I could help. :) As far as my “boat room” goes, it’s a mess.  I have the vents all covered and the cold air return has plastic over it. I don’t think my wife would be rea...

Re: Squirt in Minnesota

It was easy to mask and stain with the boards glued down.
After I glued the boards down, I did a lot of sanding to get everything right. You don't want to have to sand after staining.

Re: Squirt in Minnesota

Yes. I put a small radius on the boards so I wanted them to be all covered. I wasn't real particular on getting the entire side covered but most of it did get covered with stain. I will be adding a 1/2" stainless rub rail.

Re: Squirt in Minnesota

I put two coats of water based stain on the boat and I think it looks good. How long should I wait before I cover everything with epoxy? The can says the die/stain dries in 2 to 4 hours. miyot, it seemed to pull away from these spots but when I put another coat of epoxy over the board everything loo...

Re: Squirt in Minnesota

I have a problem with epoxy covering stain. On the picture you can see where the epoxy didn’t cover well in some spots. I covered a scrap piece of African mahogany with General Finishes Dye Stain, Vintage Cherry and let dry for 24 hours. Covered half the board with System Three Epoxy and got the spo...

Re: Squirt in Minnesota

I'm sorry guys, I didn't explain myself very good. I drilled some hold- down screw holes between the boards to help hold the boards down while the glue dried. They will be covered with the white epoxy later. But i was wondering if I should do something to the holes before the white epoxy is applied?...

Re: Squirt in Minnesota

Sub-deck complete, now it’s time to do the cover boards. I had a couple of the boards warp shortly after sawing, :( so now when I cut a board, I install it. Bandsawing a 9 inch wide board takes time but it is working out fine. I have noticed that many of you use screws to hold down these boards unti...
