Re: Double Eagle -need to tweak prop pitch or settle with pretty good

seems like it so far, but I have not tested it a lot yet. long story, but I had steam / water / coolant in the exhaust at the start of this season -about 2- 3 weeks ago- talked to some experienced mechanics (marine and auto) and per normal, folks thought it was the head gasket or a cracked head. I d...

Re: Double Eagle -need to tweak prop pitch or settle with pretty good

Hi Folks, quick update after having prop reworked. old numbers: 4.5 kts at idle 800 rpms 14.5 kts at 2200 which is where it hits peak torque About 17 kts at 2500rpms which is max rated rpm for continuous use About 19 or 20 kts at around 2800 rpms which is max rated rpm intermittent use. 23 kts full ...

Just a quick note to say the boat looks awesome so far - can't wait to see it as you progress further.

Re: Progress pics and questions on Aluminum Double Eagle build

Thanks for encouragement Carl!

Finished installing new electric hydraulic kicker bracket after beefing up transom.
Also installed prop again after having cupping and pitch added as well as having it balanced.
Finally installed steering cylinder after having seals put in.

Re: Progress pics and questions on Aluminum Double Eagle build

Beefed up the transom with a grid of 3" flatbar and added 3 triangle gussets on each side to tie in the transom to side a bit stronger. This is to hold the merc 9.9 on a heavy duty kicker bracket, which holds the outboard a foot and a half or so away from the transom, so I was concerned about the st...

Re: Is owners manual required for used merc 9.9 4 stroke

Thanks Mike - I heard Tohatsu make other brands, but I wasn't aware that they made the Mercury 9.9. I will check out the link - I am more than happy to pay say 10 buck for a pdf, but I did think that 50 for a printed was a bit much. any idea which model it would correspond to, i.e. Tohatsu MFS 9.9A,...

Is owners manual required for used merc 9.9 4 stroke

Hi Folks, We picked up a 2007 Mercury 9.9hp 4 stroke, to use as a kicker motor. I have a soft copy of the service manual, which shows how to change the oil, flush, lubrication points, etc. but, an owner's manual will cost me $50 due to shipping and US/Canada exchange rate. Trying not to be too cheap...

Re: Progress pics and questions on Aluminum Double Eagle build

Thanks Ken. It looks pretty rough in the pic. Looks better live... No pics installed but picked up a great deal on a lightly used Garelick hydra_assist kicker bracket for the used 9.9 Merc 4 stroke that my father in law picked up to use on the boat for trolling and a backup. Has an electric motor wh...

Re: Progress pics and questions on Aluminum Double Eagle build

Hi Billy - thanks for posting, regardless of timing. I had strongly considered your style diy surface drive, but in the end went with a traditional shaft drive, through the hull set up. I am happy with it, but still have lots of work to do to be ready for re-launch in about 6-8 weeks. Even then, it ...

Re: Progress pics and questions on Aluminum Double Eagle build

Finally started working on the boat, with only about 6 to 8 weeks till launch again. Used boat last summer without finished gunwales -. Only had aft sections of pipe covering topsides - nothing up towards the bow. Heated pipe and bent to fit today. A fab shop with rollers would have made smoother be...

Re: Gentry in Colborne ON.

Phenomenal work on the windshield brackets. However, this type of quality work does not encourage me to do better, as there is No chance of achieving anything like that... it encourage me to just paint everything flat black, have a beer, and just never slow the boat down so anyone can see it up clos...
