Re: Is owners manual required for used merc 9.9 4 stroke

Thanks Mike - I heard Tohatsu make other brands, but I wasn't aware that they made the Mercury 9.9. I will check out the link - I am more than happy to pay say 10 buck for a pdf, but I did think that 50 for a printed was a bit much. any idea which model it would correspond to, i.e. Tohatsu MFS 9.9A,...

Is owners manual required for used merc 9.9 4 stroke

Hi Folks, We picked up a 2007 Mercury 9.9hp 4 stroke, to use as a kicker motor. I have a soft copy of the service manual, which shows how to change the oil, flush, lubrication points, etc. but, an owner's manual will cost me $50 due to shipping and US/Canada exchange rate. Trying not to be too cheap...

Re: Progress pics and questions on Aluminum Double Eagle build

Thanks Ken. It looks pretty rough in the pic. Looks better live... No pics installed but picked up a great deal on a lightly used Garelick hydra_assist kicker bracket for the used 9.9 Merc 4 stroke that my father in law picked up to use on the boat for trolling and a backup. Has an electric motor wh...

Re: Progress pics and questions on Aluminum Double Eagle build

A bit more work on the gunwhales / cockpit coamings. Far from finished but tacked on.

Re: Progress pics and questions on Aluminum Double Eagle build

Hi Billy - thanks for posting, regardless of timing. I had strongly considered your style diy surface drive, but in the end went with a traditional shaft drive, through the hull set up. I am happy with it, but still have lots of work to do to be ready for re-launch in about 6-8 weeks. Even then, it ...

Re: Progress pics and questions on Aluminum Double Eagle build

Finally started working on the boat, with only about 6 to 8 weeks till launch again. Used boat last summer without finished gunwales -. Only had aft sections of pipe covering topsides - nothing up towards the bow. Heated pipe and bent to fit today. A fab shop with rollers would have made smoother be...

Re: Gentry in Colborne ON.

Phenomenal work on the windshield brackets. However, this type of quality work does not encourage me to do better, as there is No chance of achieving anything like that... it encourage me to just paint everything flat black, have a beer, and just never slow the boat down so anyone can see it up clos...

Re: Double Eagle -need to tweak prop pitch or settle with pretty good

Those would be neat to have - but my wife will shoot me if \i buy anything else "'for the boat". I will just snorkel once in a while and also dry out on trailer, or on my launchway/ slip as we have about 5 ft tides and the slipway is grassy. I haven't tried it yet, but with the full keel, I am assum...

Re: Double Eagle -need to tweak prop pitch or settle with pretty good

Unfortunately, the closer guy is not equipped to do it. I will likely ship my current prop to have cupping and about 2" of pitch added, as I need to reduce WOT rpms by about 500rpms. With an aluminum hull, ideally I will eventually find a SS or aluminum prop, as bronze or nibral increase chances of ...

Re: Double Eagle -need to tweak prop pitch or settle with pretty good

Hi Matt - thanks for pointing out my typos.... My other prop shop was a 3 hour + drive each way, or start having shipping costs add up if multiple "tweaks" were needed. just found a guy close to our boat/ shop with prop / machining experience. But, he is retired, with no shop so I have to ask if he ...

Re: Double Eagle -need to tweak prop pitch or settle with pretty good

I don't think there is any cupping on current one.
I have found a closer guy who should be able to add cupping, and pitch, if required. Just haven't got in contact with him yet.

Re: Double Eagle -need to tweak prop pitch or settle with pretty good

Hi All - Ken - we have discussed alot of things, pitch, slip, etc. A bit of new info, i finally removed my current prop (marked 15" x 14") and used a template and software off youtube to measure it - seems to actually come out to 15" x 15". How does that change your slip calculations - in general I ...

Re: how bad does pitting affect prop?

Well. Took off old prop today, still undecided. But, my current prop seems to work well / don't notice vibrations other than a vibration just above idle that I assumed was the 4 cyl diesel. It smooths about above that small rpm range and is smooth all the way to WOT of 2300rpms. See pics below. I go...

aux 9.9 outboard kicker bracket or notch in transom on inboard Double Eagle

Hi Folks, Our 25ft aluminum Double Eagle is inboard/ shaft drive, powered by a 150 hp Cummins 4bt. Boat is still not finished but we used last summer, and had a 2hp Honda on a small kicker bracket for emergency use and trolling, as we already had the outboard. We now have a 2007 Mercury 9.9hp 4 stro...
