aux 9.9 outboard kicker bracket or notch in transom on inboard Double Eagle

Hi Folks, Our 25ft aluminum Double Eagle is inboard/ shaft drive, powered by a 150 hp Cummins 4bt. Boat is still not finished but we used last summer, and had a 2hp Honda on a small kicker bracket for emergency use and trolling, as we already had the outboard. We now have a 2007 Mercury 9.9hp 4 stro...

Re: how bad does pitting affect prop?

Hey Ken, In general, I agree with you approach to only change one factor, and see what happens, before changing another.. But, specifically for me, there are two reasons why I would consider adding both cupping and pitch at the same time: 1. the prop shop is a 3 hour drive away.. i can ship of cours...

Re: how bad does pitting affect prop?

Hi Ken, yes, about 500 rpm too much, give or take over the max intermittent rating of 2800rpm. I may just go ahead and get the cupping added and some pitch to the new one. I reread some of your posts on my excessive slip numbers. I know you recommended cupping only and maybe even less pitch... but, ...

how bad does pitting affect prop?

As I try to find a better pitch/ cupping/ performance, I am tempted to spend say, $125- 150 on this prop, vs paying to have my current one changed- that way I have a spare... but, how much will that pitting affect performance? And, could a guy power wire brush it well, clean it and use epoxy paste t...

Re: I guess it's time to come out of the closet!Bartender 24

Hi Bill - thanks for the additional pics and material specs! what about finishing / sealing inside and out? Did you use primer/ paint products alone, or coat with epoxy and then paint? I like the look and shape of the side - do you think the the protruding shape of the sides adds to strength much ov...

Re: I guess it's time to come out of the closet!Bartender 24

Hi Bill - I really like how your engine box turned out! I currently have a borrowed and quickly altered engine box on my aluminum boat, so it could be used last summer. Toying with the idea of building box out of aluminum, having a metal shop make as many bends as possible ahead, to avoid welded sea...

Re: Finally Double Eagle sea trial video seen from shore

thanks folks! Bill - yes, I watched the incredible work and progress you completed to get to the show... by the way, boat had no barnacles on prop or shaft, but on the hull bottom there were a half dozen or so in every square foot. I am sure that's nothing compared to what some have seen, but it did...

Re: Finally Double Eagle sea trial video seen from shore

Thanks for the kind words and encouragement folks! I certainly am happy with the build and how it performs, knowing I should add some cupping and perhaps pitch adjustment to bring the rpms down at cruise speeds. Right now, I am trying hard to spend very little on the boat (wife has reached her limit...

Finally Double Eagle sea trial video seen from shore

Hi folks, Only took 2 months, but just before yesterday's haulout for the season, I managed to get a couple of videos from shore. But, the 5 minute one keeps aborting when uploading to youtube, so here are a couple of short ones. The boat had alot of barnacles on the bottom, which reduced to speed b...

Congrats! I remember reaching that phase being very fulfilling. Mine was in aluminum, and only tacked together, but same ide- really start to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Looks great!

Re: Double Eagle -need to tweak prop pitch or settle with pretty good

Per the aluminum plans, the spray rails fade out / stop but, yes the chines aft still stay on top of the water. There is a nice flow from chines and spray rails forward which make a recessed or lower water area next to the aft chines as well.
