Re: I guess it's time to come out of the closet!Bartender 24

Hi Bill - thanks for the additional pics and material specs! what about finishing / sealing inside and out? Did you use primer/ paint products alone, or coat with epoxy and then paint? I like the look and shape of the side - do you think the the protruding shape of the sides adds to strength much ov...

Hi Bill - I really like how your engine box turned out! I currently have a borrowed and quickly altered engine box on my aluminum boat, so it could be used last summer. Toying with the idea of building box out of aluminum, having a metal shop make as many bends as possible ahead, to avoid welded sea...

Re: Finally Double Eagle sea trial video seen from shore

thanks folks! Bill - yes, I watched the incredible work and progress you completed to get to the show... by the way, boat had no barnacles on prop or shaft, but on the hull bottom there were a half dozen or so in every square foot. I am sure that's nothing compared to what some have seen, but it did...

Re: Finally Double Eagle sea trial video seen from shore

Thanks for the kind words and encouragement folks! I certainly am happy with the build and how it performs, knowing I should add some cupping and perhaps pitch adjustment to bring the rpms down at cruise speeds. Right now, I am trying hard to spend very little on the boat (wife has reached her limit...

Finally Double Eagle sea trial video seen from shore

Hi folks, Only took 2 months, but just before yesterday's haulout for the season, I managed to get a couple of videos from shore. But, the 5 minute one keeps aborting when uploading to youtube, so here are a couple of short ones. The boat had alot of barnacles on the bottom, which reduced to speed b...

Congrats! I remember reaching that phase being very fulfilling. Mine was in aluminum, and only tacked together, but same ide- really start to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Looks great!

Re: Double Eagle -need to tweak prop pitch or settle with pretty good

Per the aluminum plans, the spray rails fade out / stop but, yes the chines aft still stay on top of the water. There is a nice flow from chines and spray rails forward which make a recessed or lower water area next to the aft chines as well.

Re: Double Eagle -need to tweak prop pitch or settle with pretty good

Thanks Bill. I have been meaning to take a look under it, but don't have any goggles here. Water is also a bit murky / brackish at my dock - on a tidal river. Swimming is great buit water usually pretty dark. I can go beach it softly nearby on an island with great sand and clear water to have alook ...

Re: Double Eagle -need to tweak prop pitch or settle with pretty good

Just verified #s today - top speed was off by a Knot - was a bit windy and I am getting some good growth n the bottom edges of hull, and perhaps under hull....been in the water a couple of months now with epoxy primer only - no bottom paint... will pressure was off when I take it out in a month or s...

Fantastic work Bill! Very Jealous I can't make it down to see it and all of the other examples of fine workmanship.

Maybe some day when kids are older and we have time to go.

Re: Double Eagle -need to tweak prop pitch or settle with pretty good

It's been a while since I did the cb figuring... I have it on a full size piece of paper, but that's at the shop an hour away - wom't ne up there for a few weeks likely. I did some guesswork, but did move the cb based on the stretch - assuming that I was adding bouyancy aft, so I believe I moved the...

Re: Double Eagle -need to tweak prop pitch or settle with pretty good

Yes shipping would be cheaper than driving. And with 2 small kids - can't really get away just to drive the prop up and back. I may wait and try and find any used prop within 14 to 16 inch diameter with a reasonable pitch so I then have a spare. More importantly, I could then always put one back on ...

Re: Double Eagle -need to tweak prop pitch or settle with pretty good

Agreed. I need to keep the speed around 20 to 23 kts but hit it hopefully at a much more efficient rpm range.
