Re: Neeley's Barrelback - Sacramento

Built my hatch covers last weekend and test fitted with the piano hinges temporally in place. Also fitted my gas tank. Next up are the cover boards (I've been putting it off).

Re: Tahoe 23

Looks great Tony! I just flipped my barrelback. I am really enjoying the next phase, I think you will too. In answer to your previous questions, I am going to use 3m 4200 sealant because it is removable. I am going to attach my spray rails with screws from the outside with mahogany bungs covering th...

Re: Neeley's Barrelback - Sacramento

Been working on the deck and sub structure. Took a break to do something exciting so I made a template for the dashboard. The final dashboard will have two inlays of polished stainless steel. That's what the black stripes represent on the template.

Re: Transom - solid plywood or planks

I don't think I would try the solid piece. The planks are easier to conform to the curves and get a tighter bond at the ends with planks. It's easy to trim the individual planks to length once they are attached. I followed up with a router with a flush trim bit before applying the next layer. I atta...

Re: Texas Barrelback 20

Coming along nicely.
It is my understanding that the waterline is at the setup level. That's what I did on my barrelback and it seems to look ok. Take a look at my posting. "neeley's barrelback"

Re: walnut coverboards

Thanks for all of your input. I forgot about the knots and other defects in walnut. Also I just read somewhere that walnut will bleach out in the sun, so I would end up using stain anyway. So I will stick with the mahogany and stain. The mahogany is so nice to work, and after years of working with i...

walnut coverboards

Anyone use walnut for cover boards? Seems like most people stain mahogany with walnut stain. I prefer not to use stain. Any problems with the real thing?

Re: Neeley's Barrelback - Sacramento

Here are some pictures of the flippin' boat party I had last weekend, Saturday 19, 2016.
I have come to the conclusion that it's over but not over. Lots of work ahead.

Re: Neeley's Barrelback - Sacramento

It was stained with interlux filler stain, #573 chris craft mahogany. I needed to stain to hide the filled brad holes left from applying the planking. The stain was a breeze to apply. I would highly recommend it.

Neeley's Barrelback - Sacramento

After over two years of asking many questions on this forum, I thought I would let you all know that I am actually building something.
Two more coats of varnish and I'll be ready for the flip. Pictures of the boat and dollies attached.

Thanks for all your help so far.

Re: classic steering column

Here is the setup for polishing the stainless steel tube. Saved me $175 doing it myself. (not difficult at all).
