Re: Buick aluminum 215 V8

I haven't weighed mine but most sources quote around 320lbs ready to go.

I would think the Rover version wouldn't be all that hard to find over there? It's the same V8 they used for years.

Re: What is this?

I'm guessing it's an oil drain. Remove the plug in the drain hole of your hull, feed this hose through it, remove the plug in the hose, and drain your oil from outside the boat.

Re: Buick aluminum 215 V8

Hi Jon, I've rebuilt a few bike carbs in my day so I'll give this one a shot too. I had one locked up carb off a Porsche I couldn't save but all the others have worked out over the years. I haven't got access to the really good carb cleaner anymore but I have got some around that works pretty well. ...

Re: Ski King Keel/Stringer orientation

With the Key Largo and Barrelback (and many other designs) the boats have a straight, flat reference plane established as the top edges of the stringers. How straight the keel is between the transom and a frame or so forward, or the angle of the keel to the stringers, is determined by the designed ...

Re: Ski King Keel/Stringer orientation

Today I laid out the keel, chine, sheer, and deck profiles in a CAD program. From there I've decided the way to deal with this is to move the keel up 0.25" in both frames 1 and 2, leaving everything else as drawn. This will change the angle of the "V" slightly but everything else falls in line with ...

Re: Buick aluminum 215 V8

Thanks for the info, Jon,

I'm finding it hard not to tear into the engine, having it just sit there on the stand is driving me nuts but I've got other things I need to do before I start work on that. Once I do I'll probably be hitting you up for more info though!

Re: Building modified Everglade in Australia

Seriously, it is amazing the way we Americans, who quite arrogantly consider ourselves to be living in the most modern, enlightened and advanced country on earth, have staunchly refused to accept the metric system across the board. I myself have noted so many times just how silly measuring things i...

Re: Ski King Keel/Stringer orientation

Anyway, It seems I've gained an hour today due to daylight savings, so while my wife and dogs are still asleep I'll add a couple columns to the spreadsheet and see what happens to the other corners of the frames if I tweak the offset jut a tad. It turns out if frames 1 and 2 are moved .0.25", the k...

Re: Buick aluminum 215 V8

 I had missed the edit  is the carb a quadra jet carb if so they are easy to rebuild if you can find a kit these days  Yeah, I probably should have started a new thread rather than editing this one, but I seem to be flooding the forum with Buick stuff so I tried to reuse/recycle an ...

Re: Ski King Keel/Stringer orientation

What? Overthink/over analyze things? ME? Nah... that NEVER happens. Yeah, people have spotted my engineer-ish-ness before. Guilty as charged. I even had a guy guess I was an engineer or machinist just because of the bike I was on at the time. Anyway, It seems I've gained an hour today due to d...

Re: Ski King Keel/Stringer orientation

I have a similar issue with the Torpedo. My plan is to adjust the set point of the frames so the keel is straight in frames 1-4 and monitor how it affects the chines and shears. It may be an issue of fairing. There have been a few Ski Kings built so maybe Dwayne will chime in and give some input. R...

Absolutely, that was the plan all along (see the edit on the first post). I'm just happy I won't have to deal with getting it unstuck.

Re: Buick 215 V8

I recently picked up a Buick 215 off of eBay. I thought I was looking for a flywheel forward 283 but I saw an ad for this, put in what I thought was a bid that was too low to get it, and then no one else bid. Oops? The engine was located about six hours away from me and had been pulled out of a boat...
