Re: Fred Murphy tug boat.

8) in Utah you are not allowed any over board gray or black water outlet you have to pump out period. I have seen where the gray water is pumped in to the black water tank to flush it out after it is dumped Yeah, that last part just makes sense, tho even after the gray water has gone through I like...

Re: Fred Murphy tug boat.

Rick; When I build the system, I obviously install a vent line on the holding tank, and you will get some odor coming out here when flushing the head. But I also extent this line up to the deck ( with a fabricated tee ) so I now have two deck fittings...one for pumpout and one just forward for addi...

Re: Fred Murphy tug boat.

Regarding odors on marine heads: I found that most odors I have encountered come from two sources. One; the permeation through the discharge line going from the head to the pump out from the holding tank. My solution to this? Use black poly tubing on this line, though much stiffer and hard to bend,...

Re: Fred Murphy tug boat.

Interesting stuff, especially on a boat meant for cruising. See I had no idea what the deal was with gray water. I'm not surprised that there's conflicting information out there. Obviously black water is a more serious situation. The black water tank on our TT is something I pay particular at...

Re: Fred Murphy tug boat.

Thanks, Ray. I'll tell ya, it was weird at times how I oscillated back and forth from plan A to plan B. Then it would revert itself and the cycle would begin all over again. I have about a dozen sets of study plans and actually have a set of plans for a 25' tug drawn by David Beach. Finally on the d...

Re: Fred Murphy tug boat.

Do you have a cabin layout in mind? Just wondering how you plan to use the extra space in the extended version. Galley? Dinette? Shower? More cockpit space? I can't say for sure yet what the accommodations will look like, but I do know I want a shower and a usable galley. If it looks like the forwa...

Re: Fred Murphy tug boat.

Rick, Congratulations on your decision and the start of your Fred Murphy. That will be an interesting boat for the rest of us to build vicariously through you! Be sure and post lots of pictures! I'll do it, Tom! I've really enjoyed your Bo-Jest travel log. It looks like you guys are having a blast,...

Fred Murphy tug boat.

Dang, it took forever, like 6 years, to decide on a plan but now its done! I have the wood plans and a stack of books coming for the Fred Murphy. I won't start in earnest until this next spring, by then I'll have my temporary structure built in the backyard and will have had time to pour over the pl...

Re: Titan Tug specs

Doug, did you do most of your cruising on lakes or rivers?

If you did cruise on rivers, did you do much travel against its current?

Thats a great boat you've built, the quality is obvious. Nice job.

Re: Advice and Opinions Please DC and Shorepower System

Yes, there is some strides being made in the lithium battery market (the new hybrid cars for example) but that technology is still very expensive right now and not without a few bugs of it's own (remember the Boeing 787 problems recently) - still "leading edge" stuff. (note how your cell phone or l...

Re: Advice and Opinions Please DC and Shorepower System

not sure what battery company specs you saw but li on batteries are trouble in confined spaces when it comes to charging they generally are very finicky those batteries are what grounded the 787 dream liner for catching fire when on the ground hooked up to ground power and charging might want to sa...

Re: Advice and Opinions Please DC and Shorepower System

Although some phones don't have a separate HDMI plug they still may have the ability to output the signal. My current Samsung S3 falls into this category but Samsung makes an adapter to do this. (photo below) Works on both the S3 and newer S4. Also allows USB connection at the same time so you can ...

Re: Advice and Opinions Please DC and Shorepower System

Oh, also, to touch on the satellite topic. We've had Direct TV for years at home, so, when we decided to start up the RV deal, the wife made it clear she wanted a mobile dish system. We bought our TT new, and negotiated it into the purchase. Since its a TT and not a motor home, I didn't need a roami...
