Re: Glen L 13 build photos

Just wanted to say thanks for posting up some pics. I'm (slowly) working on a Glen L 14 over here. I've got frames ready to get put together but things got put on hold for me for a bit. Seeing your pics provides some motivation to get moving again! It's a long process but stick with it. 20150316_22...

Re: Glen L 13 build photos

Yeah but the backing panels should have been done before I applied the second panel. There are no screws holding the panels to the backing, just thickened epoxy. I wish I'd done it properly just for piece of mind but so far so good.

Re: Glen L 13 build photos

"Steaming" the chines this time to help them bend properly. I poured boiling water onto the towels a number of times and let them sit for a few minutes (can't remember how long) until they were a lot more bend. I also did a better job of cutting the frames to accept the chines. 20140925_162121.jpg I...

Re: Glen L 13 build photos

There were actually two issues with the original chines, they weren't recessed into the frame properly such that the outer edge lined up with the 3rd frame and they didn't bend smoothly around the 3rd frame, more like kinked at the frame but I don't think I have a good picture to show that. 20140911...

Re: Glen L 13 build photos

Another shot after the keel was added. 20140802_094405.jpg My first go at the chines was no good, one broke after I started fairing so I replaced them both. Anyway, below was my first attempt. I was living in a rented townhouse and didn't want to drill holes in the floor so I used weights to help ke...

Glen L 13 build photos

Hi everyone,

Back in January I launched my 13 and I posted a few photos. Here are some photos of the build.

Re: New Glen-L 14 Build

I found that the plans for the 13 were not accurate for the transom. The bevel for the bottom edges of the transom were out by 10 degrees. It required 10 degrees more bevel so it was just a matter of taking more off. From my experience with the 13, study the plans and make sure you are clear in your...

Re: New Glen-L 14 Build

A hand plane is essential. Mine was a $20 job from a box store here in Australia. Worked great so long as I had it sharpened to at least the correct bevel. A lesson learnt. I also bought a $60 orbital sander and it died after sanding the undercoat of the deck on my 13. I should have just wet sanded ...

Re: New Glen-L 14 Build

Not sure what you mean exactly when you say the curve of the ID of the frame sides. Are you saying the side where the planking will meet the frame? If so, there is no great need to get these perfect, use a hand plane and apply the panels of plywood with thickened epoxy. Don't screw the ply into the ...

Re: Glen l 13 launched

The boys did enjoy it. I took them out in a hire boat a few months ago but it was a horrible tippy fibreglass thing with low sides and when the weather turned I capsized it. They were a bit apprehensive about sailing again after that. They are looking forward to going out in my boat again. I promise...

Glen l 13 launched

Hi everyone, Last Thursday I officially launched my Glen l 13 after almost 3 years of building. She sails beautifully, with very little weather helm and only the lightest touch needed on the tiller. I installed the centreboard too far forward in the centreboard trunk and it doesn't pivot down very f...

Re: New Glen-L 14 Build

I agree, I would have done the same if I'd thought of it. I managed to get a 1/8 bit for my dremel but the jig I had to make for it meant I couldn't get to all edges of the frames once they were part of the boat.
