Re: Ripping stock for bird mouth mast

gdcarpenter, thanks for the diagram. Very informative. Rod, So here's what I think you're saying is the best way to cut the staves and assemble them. (Image copied from duckworksmagazine.com and then I added the woodgrain by hand.) Curve of grain cross section maybe a bit exaggerated but shows that ...

The top one you do not want 8) ideal cut.jpg the circled one is what you want  Really? I would have thought the best one would be the first sketch. Ripping stock for bird mouth mast

I'm planning to build a bird mouth mast for my Skipjack. I'm wondering which type of board I should buy for ripping the staves. (I think that's what they're called.) Epoxy vs. Resorcinol

Much ado is made about the superior properties of Epoxy products, and no wonder, considering how expensive they are, and how profitable for the companies selling it. But is epoxy really the best adhesive for boatbuilding, if so, then why, for example, does marine plywood use Resorcinol and not epoxy...

Hello, newbie here. Introduction

Hello from a new member. I live in Kirkland, Washington and my first build is underway. It's a Stevenson Super Skipjack. I had already bought the materials before I discovered the Glen-L site, so I was committed. I think if I hadn't started the Skipjack, I'd probably be building a GL14 or GL15 right...
