Re: Waterlox
Pretty darn expensive stuff. What is better about it that would make me want to switch from tried and true (and less expensive) marine brands like Interlux and Pettit?

Re: Considering Some Skipjack Modifications
I just discovered that Glen-L has a trolling motor version of the electric inboard plans. So I now have two choices:

I don't think I'll need the remote steering though.

Re: Considering Some Skipjack Modifications
Bayou Bengal, The heavy solid wood mast makes it quite unstable. I turned it upside down my first time out. I just bought a Finnish windsurfer mast today...It hardly weighs anything. I'm not sure if it's beefy enough for a boat as big as the Skipjack but I plan to try it out. It'll require some seri...

Re: Considering Some Skipjack Modifications
Thanks for your post Sproggy. Your concerns and suggestions are well taken and appreciated. The Skipjack is a small boat of only 14 FT LOA and about 300 or so pounds. The keel is fixed and runs the length of the boat, as shown in this thumbnail: http://www.stevproj.com/SSkipBlgSeqPicsm.jpg I would o...

Considering Some Skipjack Modifications
My (Stevenson Designs) Skipjack became a garage queen after only three launches, and an ongoing Craigslist ad has yielded no interest, let alone a sale. So it looks like I'm stuck with it, at least for now. I'm considering some modifications to make it more stable and easier to sail, more convenient...

Paul Riccelli, AKA 'PAR', has passed away
Just in case anyone here knew Paul. This sad news was posted last night over on the BYYB forum. First Glen, then Ken, now Paul. We've lost some great people in our little community recently and are poorer for it: ***************************************************************************************...

Re: Waterproof wood glue
Footer, I don't know a lot about Titebond III except that it's water based, so I would think that the bonded surfaces would have to breathe enough for the glue to dry out in order to get a good bond. (Water-impervious surfaces probably wouldn't bond well for this reason, I'm thinking.) That would be...

Re: Waterproof wood glue
Epoxy is not the be-all-end-all either. I've read that it can weaken in hot climates. You should be okay with it in MI though. Some time ago I posted a rather lengthy discussion on epoxy vs. resorcinol:

Re: 16' Ski Boat Restoration
Bilgekote is a good product but make sure you do proper surface prep and the right primer. I found out from the manufacturer that you can't apply it directly to an epoxy substrate, and that that same epoxy substrate needs a special two-part primer before applying the Bilgekote. Other surfaces need d...

Re: Craigslist Glen-L 21CB?
I have jamb cleats for both halyards and for the jib sheets. Just releasing the jib sheets doesn't actively pull the jib down to the deck, especially in wind. It tends to just stay up and flap. My idea is that a line fastened to the head of the jib and routed to a block or fairlead at the bow and th...

Re: Craigslist Glen-L 21CB?
Bill and Tom, The boat has weather helm, which increases as it heels, which tends to round it up automatically unless I fight it with the tiller. The boom is a roller reefing boom. The problem isn't reefing. It's the predominately light winds combined with occasional big gusts. Sailing around in the...

Re: Craigslist Glen-L 21CB?
I'm thinking of adding ballast to the bilge to increase the boat's stability in gusty conditions. I had a few "interesting" moments when the boat heeled way over in gusts. The empty boat is probably about 1500 pounds with maybe 400 to 500 pounds of that being the steel plate swing keel. So t...

Re: Pondering some Amigo questions...
That Craigslist Amigo I mentioned above in February is still for sale, and the price has been slashed, if anyone is interested. Hull is fiberglass, deck and cabin are wood. Here's the new ad. https://seattle.craigslist.org/kit/boa/d/classic-25-cutter-must-sell/6307601984.html 00000_clpNzFi8FQP_1200x...

One more. At the Friday Harbor breakwater waiting for a slip.
Finally, I couldn't resist this one of a classic wooden Schooner returning to port at Friday Harbor.
