Re: Highschool Riviera Build Project

Just another update with some bad news. After the boat completely cured, the spots became worse. On one side there is barely anything, but on the other side, there are huge cloudy streaks everywhere. Unfortunately, after sanding the spots down as much as I could without going through the fiberglass,...

Re: Highschool Riviera Build Project

Thank You - I ended up applying the fiberglass today - it was a long day, with a few complications. The end result looked Okay - I hope it improves with Varnish. I ended up with these cloudy white patches in the epoxy. (hard to see in 2nd photo but obvious in real life) Do you have any idea why this...

Re: Highschool Riviera Build Project

Hello all,
Sunday I am applying fiberglass, and I was wondering whether or not I needed to do a Seal coat before I applied the fiberglass for the Bond coat, since I already sealed the hull using CPES.

Thanks,
Michael

Re: Highschool Riviera Build Project

I haven't done much since the last post - I cut the fiberglass to size and I figured out how all the pieces will fit together to cover the boat. I am also building a fiberglass and carbon fiber guitar out of the leftover materials too small to use on the boat - Its a project for school. I have decid...

Re: Highschool Riviera Build Project

I have just finished the Shaft hole - I have attached pictures. I ran into a total of 3 screws, and It did splinter a little bit on the inside at the end, but it seems okay. The hole also seems to be ever so slightly off center - to the port side - But I believe it should be okay. I plan to move on ...

Re: Highschool Riviera Build Project

Alright - so, after many setbacks, I have finally started drilling the shaft hole. I started last night, around 11:00 and gave up around 1:00. I set everything up and started to drill until I ran into a screw - I had to chisel it out to continue. By this point, It was around 12:30 - Because the scre...

Re: Highschool Riviera Build Project

Hi everyone, So far my summer has been even more busy than the school year. But I have run into many problems involving the drilling of the shaft hole. The most recent and by far the largest problem is that I ordered the wrong strut. It did not have enough drop, and I found this out after I had chis...

Re: Olds cool down

I'm sorry to hear about Old's Cool going down. I wish you the best of luck finding and retrieving it. Is there any news? Have you located it?

Re: Highschool Riviera Build Project

Hi, Okay so quick update - I have done some light sanding, filled small holes/chips in the epoxy, and applied the second coat of CPES. I actually ran out of CPES; I only have the transom and the lower part of the port side to do. I have done more driveshaft calculations, and I ordered a 14 degree st...

Re: Highschool Riviera Build Project

I was basing the 13 degree strut (it was a typo I meant to do 13 degrees) off of a 14 inch prop, and 52 inches between the output shaft of the transmission and where the prop should be. Now, this would make it a 7 inch radius, plus 3 inches of clearance, and 2 inches from the output shaft to the bot...

Re: Highschool Riviera Build Project

So since I last posted, I have applied my first coat of CPES to the boat. It is shiny, and I only put one coat on it so far; when I put it outside to put the CPES on it, it was the first time where I had seen it in natural lighting. (when we flipped it it was about to snow) and It's beautiful. I hav...

Re: Highschool Riviera Build Project

Hi, I have been super busy over the last few weeks so I haven't been able to post anything or do much on the boat: but my schedule frees up for the foreseeable future so I should have more time to work on it. Over the last couple days I have been fixing some cracks in the boat, and soon I should be ...

Re: Highschool Riviera Build Project

Hi, So a quick update, I spent 17 hours last weekend applying three coats of San dusky Dark Walnut Stains. I love the result - I decided to put one coat on the bottom - because I had done the test on one half of the bottom, and I had enough extra stain to do the other half. I do not have much time t...

Re: Highschool Riviera Build Project

Hi,
So while looking at the plans, me and my dad had come up with some questions. He and I were hoping that we could see boat as inspiration, to find how you did some of the little things. If anybody would be willing to let me see your boat, i would be grateful.

Thanks,
Michael

Re: Highschool Riviera Build Project

Thank You for everything! Quick Update: we have flipped the boat back over without hurting the boat or anyone: and right now its a little but boxed in, because we are moving things around in the Garage to accommodate for the project. I have ordered Sandusky Stains and CPES from vintage trailer suppl...
