I have built 2 boats with ACX from Lowes and 2 (1 plus the one I'm building now) using Okoume marine ply. The boat will work either way and as far as how it will look is determined by the craftmanship of the builder. If done right, you will have a hard time visibly telling an ACX boat from a boat bu...

novass - I was just answering your question and I honestly believe epoxy is worth the cost. I also base that on experience, my experience, which will obviously differ from someone elses. Years ago, before I ever even considered building a boat, I repaired the wood floor on a big center console boat ...

Re: Polyester resin...the good, the bad, and the ugly

But is epoxy really so much better that its worth more then double the price of polyester? Yes! Let me repeat that, Yes! If you are talking about the kind of polyester I know about, i.e. the kind that is sold at general marine supply stores or even Home Depot (usually Bondo Brand) I would never put...

I am using cypress on my Aquacat build and I cannot tell you what a pleasure it has been to use. Very strong, easy to work, cheap, and smells fantastic. It has just about every desirable quality for boat building, it is even rot resistant. I encapsulated everything, so I am not too worried about it...

Dennis, Is your supplier the Houston Lumber Company? I buy a lot from them up here in Dallas (www.HLCDallas.com). The lumber dealer I use is called Houston Hardwoods. They carry Okoume from 3mm up to 18mm as well as Aqutek and Hydrotek. The types of hardwoods and softwoods they carry is similar to ...

just my 2 cents
Isn't Mahogany kinda brittle too? I haven't used it either but have seen it before and I recall that it seemed very dry and brittle. What kind of wood do you use predominantly?

Has Anybody Used Cypress Before?

I am looking at several designs for a new build that I want to start this winter and I am trying to make some decisions about materials. I will use Okoume ply again as I really liked working with it before, but I am still trying to identify what wood to use for the boat structure. I have a supplier ...

I have seen this issue come up before here and on other forums and the hyfrofoil is quite often the miracle cure. On small boats, if the engine is oversized, this tends to happen. You get too much weight on the rear end. The hydrofoil adds enough lift to stabilize the situation. I think the TNT is r...

Its awesome! I can't wait to see this one run.

What changes did you make to the spec plans to increase the size? Did you just go with spec and then increase everything by some %?

I see the dash is a mod, what other mods do you have in mind?

Would a used trailer be allright? If you live in an area where there is a lot of boating, you can almost always find stuff for sale in the newspaper classifieds, craigslist or other local classifieds. Unfortuately, you don't find a lot of trailers by themselves, they usually come with boats on them....

Yes BUT, .....what if you put the hydrofoil on and it DIDN'T cure the problem? I hate trying to fix things one guess at a time at say, $50 to $100 per guess. I think the foil will work too but I wish there could be some way to try it before committing to all the time and money to get it operational...

Need Help Choosing The Correct Prop

I built the Tiny Titan and I am running a '75 Evinrude 15hp. The engine is completely stock. The boat runs pretty fast as is and since my kids will be using it, I may just leave the motor alone. However, if I wanted to get a little more speed I guess the best way would be to get a different prop. As...

Jimmy - do you have a hydrofoil on the motor? I have heard of guys having the same problem and the hydrofoil was the solution. Go to this link http://www.boatdesign.net/forum/showthread.php?p=50246 and read about this guy's problem with his Minmost. It sounds a lot like your problem and it may be be...

I don't know. They are from Australia. It would be interesting to have one around, although after a few days in this household I fear the things that it might repeat could be embarrasing.
