Re: Overniter in SC

Thanks! Second coat looks even better. Bought a good respirator and sprayed it. Got much better transfer efficiency than expected and went pretty quickly. Should have sprayed the first coat. Oh well. All turned well so far. Gonna let it cure out and get to sanding again.

http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f365/adamkol/IMG_20161203_115839637_HDR.jpg After lots of fairing and sanding today was a major milestone. First coat of primer. I'm using supermarine etching primer. Planning to topcoat with supermarine ironsides. First coat rolled on really nicely. Fumes are inte...

Re: I'm a Boat Builder! G-L Ski Tow under construction!

Mark-NJ & Adrock1, Don't you just LOVE how we make you spend your Money   They're right though, it'll add a little more "tingle" in your spine every time you show it off :D Kelvin I just can't decide which look I'd prefer. Planked is certainly a classic.look and real shows off the craftsm...

Re: I'm a Boat Builder! G-L Ski Tow under construction!

Mark,

Really looking forward to seeing how this turns out. I'm torn myself between a planked or ply deck and had all but made up my mind to plank it but now I'm debating again. I bet that sapelle ply would look really good.

I wish I could find more examples of its use for reference.

Re: I'm a Boat Builder! G-L Ski Tow under construction!

Mark. You might be surprised in the electrical cost. I just keep my garage at 55-60 when I'm working. Perfectly comfortable in a sweatshirt and overalls. Use fast curing epoxies and just keep the garage above the minimum curing temp long enough for the epoxy to cure. Other than leave the heat off. I...

Re: I'm a Boat Builder! G-L Ski Tow under construction!

Mark, sorry about your mother. As far as the weather I'll also recommend a space heater. I bought a cieling mounted unit from northern tool. Runs on 220 but they had 110 units available as well. It doesn't get as cold down here in SC of course but this little heater keeps it comfortable in my uninsu...

Re: Overniter in SC

Thanks for the feedback guys. To answer your question Bill, I plan to make a fairly sharp edge. Not totally crisp because I don't want it to be to delicate but pretty sharp. I'll probably make a nice crisp sharp edge then just barely knock it down with a few passes with some sandpaper to just ease i...

Re: Overniter in SC

Question for the group: I'm working now on the final fairing in preparation for paint. This of course includes creation of a nice sharp edge where the bottom planking meets the transom. I understand the necessity of doing so to ensure the water breaks cleanly from that edge when the boat is on plane...

Online trailer sales?

So I'm not too far from needing a trailer for my overniter build and am starting to research options. I don't weld or have much in the way of metal working equipment so I'm not going to build my own. I've scoured craiglist in the hopes of finding a hidden gem but no luck. Lots of rust buckets or tra...

Awesome Matt. This is a major milestone. When I got my planking done it finally felt real, like there was actually a boat in my garage.

Re: Cabin Design Considerations

Carl I definitely early like your second sketch best. If it were me I'd shorten the benches in the cabin a little and slide everything forward so the cabin bulk head is at frame three but that's just me.

Re: Overniter in SC

How's the build coming along? Pretty well. I guess I'm due for an update lol. Anyway since my last update I've completed the fiberglassing, the keel strip and as you'll see I got the first spray rail on today. For the fiberglass I did a combination of 10oz glass and a layer of xynole. I wanted the ...

Re: Cabin Design Considerations

Carl I think your making the right decisions in terms of layout. I'm interested to see how you end up doing the helm. Should be interesting. In any event the veracruise is a nice sized boat and for a day tripper you won't regret maintaining a lot of space in the aft cockpit for everyone to stretch o...
