Hull design question

I'll probably forego any changes from the plan and put it on, bu my question is: Why does the FF stem drop about an inch deeper than the keel? Is this a design thing or does it have a purpose? See highlighted area in photo over frame 5.

Re: Flats Flyer in Sweden

Hey man, Congrats on starting the flyer. The plans recommend against widening the beam, though, as a woodworker, I know there are ways around just about everything if done correctly. That said, any wider would cause issues for trailering out here so I left it as it was planned. I did end up accident...

Re: Flats Flyer Build in S.C.

Nice! Did you put an eye bolt in the stem? if so, where did you put it? Also, I feel like a TON of hardware goes into small pieces of wood. That's why I made my chine logs 1.5 " thick at the rear. give those corners a little more strength and add forgiveness to where I place the nails and screws. I ...

Re: FF in Kathleen GA

I had to order more fasteners and more encapsulating epoxy before I can put more of the hull on. tomorrow, I will try to finish fairing everything to get it to the. point where I can put the rest of the hull on quickly.

Re: FF in Kathleen GA

I feel like the chine logs are a bit thin at 3/4" so I doubled up them on the inside. I also put the 1st sheet of the hull on.

Re: FF in Kathleen GA

Well,

I've got good news and bad news. Good news is: I have to have the hull on by December.

Bad News:
I lost the directions and had to buy a whole new set...
Also, I am PCS-ing to Germany where they will not take my boat. Soooo, it will have a 4 year break sitting in storage.

Re: FF in Kathleen GA

Life Happens.

I haven't quit building, but between the house repairs and being out the door a lot, we have been on an extended hold. We also got PCS notification, so we may be going to Germany, Alaska, or Panama City. Who knows? Either way, I will need to have the hull on by Jan to move her.

Re: FF in Kathleen GA

So, we've had some massive water damage in the house and my wood working business has been keeping me super busy as well. On top of all that, I am heading on a quasi deployment to SC and haven't gotten the flyer where I want her before I move her. That being said, I am super close to putting the fir...
