Re: Flats Flyer Build in Panama City FL

I went with it. Visually, on the diagrams it makes sense to taper...and it might have said it in the directions and I missed it. Thanks

Re: Flats Flyer Build in Panama City FL

Did you square off the battens off at the transom and keep them straight? Or did they angle slowly to the center?

Re: Flats Flyer Build in S.C.

So the plans say to start the chine logs at the stem, but I've seen you guys go transom and then bend them. Which way did you go with and why?

Re: Flats Flyer Build in Panama City FL

Did you have to extend your chine logs or battens?

Re: Flats Flyer Build in S.C.

Did you have to extend your battens or chine logs? I dont have anything long enough and I think the chine logs will end up around 23 feet

Re: FF in Kathleen GA

Well, its been 6 months since I've been able to touch the flyer....but this weekend, I will begin to work on it again. However, I cannot, for the life of me, find the directions. I still have the plans, but I've lost the directions...thoughts?

Re: FF in Kathleen GA

Thank for the responses. I will probably cut out the chine notches, but I have a 2 week TDY and won’t be back until mid March, so I will be taking a break.

I’ll post some updates then

Re: FF in Kathleen GA

So today, I trimmed up most of the gussets, laminated the bottom pieces on the transom(since I jacked up the only piece I had wide enough) spaced out the frames to the proper length, cut the keel notches on all the frames and dry fitted the stem and keel. I measured it out and I think my final size ...

Re: FF in Kathleen GA

So rookie question.

Here is the assumption:

Once the transom Knee is attached, attach to frame 1 with the keel and then to the stem. Once complete, move to the chine...is that the correct order?

Stem is glued up and ready to be trimmed and the plywood backing of the transom is being glued tonight...note my sophisticated clamping system.

Re: FF in Kathleen GA

You're making great progress Conrad and will be caught up to me in no time. This was the exciting part of the build for me so far, seeing it take shape and starting to get a feel for the size. After the flip, you'll really appreciate how much room is in it. Sooooo, I’m getting ready to mark out and...
