Re: And so it begins

Welcome Jim - You will fit right in. It is amazing how many of our builders are also pilots. There is a connection.

Re: Riviera Height Mod? Taller...

The cockpit is "shallow" as compared to the Monte Carlo, Tahoe, Biscayne. I know of several folks who have extended the sides as much as 6". But here is the problem. Your side frames go from convex to straight to concave from transom to bow. If you simply add length you have a big issue. The transom...

Re: Alternative to Cedar?

Are you using Eastern Red Cedar? If so, there is your problem. There is no such thing as clean wood in Eastern Red.

Try White Cedar and Western Red to get clear lumber.

Clear Fir is also a good substitute.

Re: Restoring old boats versus building old boats

I think I read quite a bit about wooden boats, maybe not as much as a lot of you guys, but quite a bit. Not all restored boats are antique, old or classic . . . some are new boats. Have you read the articles that describe the restoration as replacing the keel, frames, stem, bottom, planks, deck and...

Re: Restoring old boats versus building old boats

Carl - We who have built our own boats with our own skills can relate to what you are saying because we have an emotional tie to the discussion. However, we need to be a little pragmatic. That ACBS is for "antique" and "classic" boats meeting those definitions. Current builds whether done by a profe...

Re: Limbers on a monaco / riveria

Keith - I cut two sets of athwartship limbers. One set at the transom so when the boat was on plane, and water ran to the rear it could move down toward the keel. At rest, the Riviera low point is at frame 6. You will need to add a bilge pump in front of this frame. I have athwartship limbers on bot...

Re: River Run

One of the best photos I have of Midnight is on the slick water. One of the best photos I have in my album is a pic of Kens. The water was so slick and clear it looked you could see under it.

When that water is slick like that, the Run is a memory to remember forever!!!!!
