Mercury 40 and 44 cu-in Speed & Performance

I have noticed several posts on the performance of the 40 hp Mark 55 on a small boat. Most of the speeds quoted are in the ball park, when I compare them to my numbers. The boat I built is 13 ft long, 5.5 ft wide and weighs about 250 lbs. The design is similar to the Flying Saucer except it has a fl...

I have a rotor for a 1955 Fairbanks mag that was used on the Mark 55 motors, drop me an email at outboard_parts@yahoo.com.

Re: Reviving your classic outboard

Your writeup is very interesting, however, I believe your oil to gas ratio is incorrect. A 32/1 oil to gas ratio would be 4 oz to a gal. not 3 oz.
3 oz to a gal is 42.7/1

Re: 1958 Evinrude Lark 35

I agree with you the auto transmission Merc's were almost impossible to work on unless you had the correct tools, however when they were working they were a very smooth running and shifting motor. But when the water pump failed it was time to sell the motor. Today no one in my area will work on thes...

Re: 1958 Evinrude Lark 35

I have a 1958 Evinrude Lark on a 1957 Crestliner Viking and it is a great motor. The 1958 Lark was the first of the quite motors and they are very quite and smooth running. I have no idea why anyone would say this is a motor to stay away from. I noticed your motor is the wrong color and missing seve...

Re: Mark 30E

The Mark 30 is a short and should work on your Zip. But before I spent that amount of money I would make sure that the motor was checked out by a good mechanic. As a minimum the lower unit should have been resealed and a new impeller installed, the carbs should have been rebuilt and new upper and lo...

Here is a Bullet made from plans http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9o1rZqJYubE
This boat handles rough water very well and is fast, the current motor is a 4 cyl. 65 hp Mercury on a Mercury 58a tower and lower unit. The tower and lower unit were changed to reduce weight.

Re: ZIP & Mercury Mark 35A - Steering

The teleflex steering system will not work with the older motors but all you have to do is switch the clamp brackets and tube from a 1964 or later motor.
Hope this helps
