Fiberglass and strakes

I noticed a strake (I believe it is called) on some Malahini's, but nothing on the prints. Where can I find out info on this; ie: angles to the bottom for and aft? What purpose does it serve? Also, I'm almost ready to fiberglass and noticed they recommend to round the edges to keep air gaps from for...

Re: Michigan Mahahini. Paint

Thanks for the info. I live on a lake and my boat will be in the water most of the time until I pick up a boat lift. So, getting a paint that will hold up is very important. I am almost ready to start fiber glassing, so I'm getting serious about some good paint.

Michigan Mahahini. Paint

I'm getting close to painting the bottom of my Malahini and I have a question:
Do I paint the color on the bottom before or after I put on the fiberglass?

Re: Bow notching on malahini

Thanks for all the input. I really appreciate it. Pictures are always a great help. I think I'm OK with the notching now. Moving on to the stern and the center piece.
Thanks again.

Re: Bow notching on malahini

Thanks guys for your input. Sometimes, its hard to tell from pictures, exactly how things are supposed to go. I would like to know the whole story why the notches are there and on the transition between the keel to the stem. The Chines are faired. The ply is just roughed in and may look off. There s...

Bow notching on malahini

So I am to the point of putting the side plywood on. The book says to put a notch in the transition of the bow. Well, I did, but I screwed it up a bit (I cut it a bit too shy). What is the actual purpose of this transition? The pictures in my directions show both, stepping down and stepping up, but ...
