Re: Somerset, KY Gentry

Carl. Come by and take a look at my engine/prop shaft layout. It will help to see it in person. I think you will need to make a scale drawing and template of the engine you expect to use. Combined with the info the plans give you, will get you close enough that changing the shaft length will let you...

Re: Barrelback-20 Louisville Kentucky

Good advice Ken. I like the way you think.
The epoxy on the sides up to the water line can be uv protected same as the sides.
Thanks again.

Re: Barrelback-20 Louisville Kentucky

I like the idea of coloring the epoxy. I found pigment colors at Total Boat. Will the colored epoxy need UV protection? It will be visible up to the boot top.

Re: Barrelback-20 Louisville Kentucky

Bottom paint...the Classic Boat Connection folks convinced me that their Epifanes Yacht Enamel would work fine for a trailered boat. After reading more in these forums, I am having doubts. Especially after seeing Bill's standard response: "Bottom paint for bottoms, top paint for above the water line...

Gotcha. Thanks Carl and Jim for those hints. The bottom will be a good place to experiment and learn.

Re: Barrelback-20 Louisville Kentucky

There you go! White opaque fluid, micro bubbles...perfect description! Hard to deal with once you have it. So, I need to keep them from forming. I'll try rolling an even layer on a small area and brushing any white stuff away. If that doesn't work I will brush it all on since brushing it did not cau...

Re: Barrelback-20 Louisville Kentucky

Tom. Have you tried glen-l's wooster tiz yellow rollers?
Not familiar with FH?
Does tipping help get rid of the really fine bubbles, almost like blushing, but not on the surface?
I really appreciate the advice!

Re: Barrelback-20 Louisville Kentucky

Thanks everyone! Sounds like squeegee's on horrizontal surfaces.
Next concern is the virtical sides. I plan to encapsulate but no glass. I'm thinking I will have to brush that on?
BTW, to clarify, the bubbles are not from gassing off, in this case. The roller itself is causing them as Ken said.

Re: Barrelback-20 Louisville Kentucky

Hi all. I am glassing the bottom with Poxy-shield and it's looking ok but I'm having problems with the foam paint roller putting fine bubbles in the epoxy when applying. (See close-up) They are leaving streaks and cloudy areas. When applied with a brush, no bubbles. Anyone have a solution? Thanks mu...

Re: DONOR BOAT/ GOOD IDEA OR NOT?

So as I get farther along in my barrelback build, im starting to think about the driveline, steering and trailer etc. so it seems to me that an older inboard ski boat such as a ski nautique or supra would be a great donor. Couldn't a lot of the parts be reused in the barrelback build? Am I correct ...
