RON FILSELL'S TAHOE 19 LAUNCH

Last Sunday I took my camera along to Ron's Tahoe 19 launch. After a Five year build I think he was pretty happy with the result. Well done Ron, nice boat.

Re: Monaco Utility

Thank you Dave, good info to know. Due to the shape and size of the engine mounts I plan to use 3" thick hardwood engine logs which should accomodate the mounts comfortably. I plan to make these calculations on Monday then spend the week assembling the frames followed by setting up the building frame.

Re: Monaco Utility

Stoodent is fine Mike, good on you for giving it a go ! It is not essential to purchase your engine prior to the build. I chose too to be absoulutely sure of the distance between stringers in relation to mount position and required log thickness and also to get that fairly hefty shell-out behind me....

Re: Monaco Utility

Thanks for the clarification Dave and for your recommendation for cowl use. I ordered my engine with the 9 deg down angle in the hope that the cowel may have a little extra clearence as the engine will be on a more level plane but I guess only time will tell. What are you running in your Riviera ? I...

Re: Monaco Utility

Hi from Australia Mike, an update on my Monaco. Frames cut and ready for assembly, next week ! I have just received my engine. After a lot of research I decided on the PCM 5.7 fuel injected engine with 343 hp it should carry me along very nicely. As I still plan to build the utility version this eng...

Re: Monaco Utility

Sorry all, the post I discovered did say it was a Monaco utility and I couldn't see the bow in the image of course so my mistake.

Having said that, nice boat Bruce and the image, along with the Chris Craft image are helpfull in visualising the Moanco as a utility.

Re: Monaco Utility

Hello Mike

Not sure if you had seen this image of Monaco utility built by another member (sorry, cant remember who :? ) I discovered the image by searching "Monarco"

Obviously the installation of a big V8 will not allow the seat room/width shown in this image

Re: Hello from Sydney, Australia

Yes Bill, you got it. Just met Ron recently through a mutual acquaintance. It's pretty inspiring to have read a lot of stuff on the boat build and then to see one, very similar, in reality. The experience sort of cements a lot of stuff in your head as you look at it and soak it up. Ron's a good blok...

Re: Hello from Sydney, Australia

Thanks Fergal My wife, love her dearly, just understands that if there was any chance of a boat in our lives, it would not be connected to a sail. Having said that, I know for certain that she will be very happy to see this boat in the water. Thank you also Bill I have made contact with a Tahoe 19 b...

Re: Engine For Monaco

Yes, that was my feeling too. The Rich Coey Monaco build was what really decided me on building this boat. It's just a beautiful thing. Along with Bruce Dow's also extraordinary boat. In fact, all the Monaco build photographs are just great inspiration and help. I am sure that you could make use of ...

Re: Help please re engine choice for Monaco

Thank you to both upspirate and Rich for your response. I understand that building the Utility allows me more room to move re engine height but I wouldn't be happy with an engine cover, probably with a matching upholstered top, that finished above the deck line. Sounds as though it will be fine. Tha...

Help please re engine choice for Monaco

Hello, I am about to build a 19' Monaco, most probably in the Utility configuration :D . I have been looking at engine options and like the Mercruiser 5.7 MPI models. I would like some help please in determining which engine would best suit this craft. The Mercruiser options, as far as I can tell, a...

Hello from Sydney, Australia

Hi, My name is Tim. I live in Sydney, at a little place called Pymble. I've no boating experience to speak of but my wife and I would like to do a bit of harbour and river exploration as a pastime. Jane, my wife, has a preference for a boat with a sail. This was a bit of a sticking point for me as I...

Re: Engine For Monaco

Hi Mike, From Australia, I have just read that you have recently received your Monaco plans. Well, :o so have I, early January and am equally excited at the prospect of building this very pretty boat. I said to my wife, hey, listen to this! and read your comments out loud. She said "did you write th...
