Re: Wet Exhaust thoughts

How about initially just add a 45 degree elbow to point them outboard and see if it helps. Just clamp on some PVC elbows for a test run. The issue is not noise here, but fumes and forcing the stream outboard my be enough to cure it.

Re: How to make wood colored resin putty

I used the West Systems powder to thicken my epoxy. I found about 1/3 Mahogany wood powder and 2/3 of the white filler compound gave me something like the right colour for my timber, but obviously yours will be different. Also bear in mind that the timber darkens with age and the filler doesn't so y...

Re: Wet Exhaust thoughts

That's a great idea Cyclone. The other thought is to take the exhausts sideways with an elbow and piece of pipe then maybe a 45 on the end so as to effectively move them outboard but still above the waterline and therefore avoid any back pressure issues or siphoning issues. You could later add a hor...

Re: Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas everybody from Down Under. Already unwrapping presents here. 7AM and hot and sweaty already. Having a dual slow cooked barbie this year - lamb roast and chicken roast. Been an unusual year family-wise. Looking forward to a better year next year. All the Best, Glenn, Tracey and Sox (t...

Definitely looking forward to that! Hopefully I can come over a week or so before to help prepare. I can Handle ropes, splice, tie knots, hopefully can be helpful not just a passenger.
Just need to plan the trip as soon as you have a close date. :)

Steve, as usual I am in awe of your work and your perseverance. It seems a shame to cover up all that wonderful engine room work, there are so many hours of love in there.

Re: Barrelback Engine choice

I am not sure I would put a completely alloy block and heads engine in a boat myself. If you do, definitely add close loop cooling to avoid internal corrosion issues and a warped head due to a momentary shortage of cooling water (to which alloy heads are more prone). In addition, the torque curve fo...

Re: Gearbox troubles

Lots of good advice as per usual, I'd grab a bit of timber (4 x 2 maybe) 2-3 feet long, start her up in neutral, and lean the timber against the coupling. It should take very little pressure to stop it turning if nothing is wrong. If it is difficult to stop, there is definitely something wrong and a...

Re: 13x13 prop hub thickness

I'd offset the shaft rather than the rudder. I.E. The shaft isn't parallel with the keel. (Get ready for a lively discourse) 25 degrees here tonight, 20 tomorrow night. I personally think Bob is correct from a technical perspective, however achieving the correct angle and placement to allow the eng...

Re: Converting wooden lifeboat to cruiser

Post a picture for us to better comment, but I'd say modifying the Gunnel would be more difficult than stepping the deck down. Kind of depends on the practical use and look. Are we talking 6 inches or 1 inch? Do you need that extra room underneath the deck? Are you putting rails around?

Centering guide poles

A member has asked about my trailer guide poles, so grabbed a photo or two to give you an idea. Note that I haven't cleaned up and painted them, so the pictures look very rough. The problem was lining my Gentry up on the trailer to get her hauled out. To start with when the trailer is under water, y...
