Completely New to Painting, Need Advice

I fiberglassed my Squirt last weekend and except for another coat or two of epoxy and sanding, I'll be ready to paint soon (I'll be painting after the decking is complete). I'm having trouble on finding any information on how to go about this process. I thought about going to West Marine, but decide...

Re: Squirt Fiberglassing Question

Oh ok, I had seen people build up the transom after fiberglassing but I didn't know why, that makes a lot more sense now. I have already rounded all the edges, including the transom, so I'll just go ahead with fiberglassing the bottom/transom edge. The overlap method seems to be what I'm going to go...

Re: Squirt Fiberglassing Question

I hadn't thought about just overlapping it, good idea, and thanks for the picture. You then did another overlap with the bottom fiberglass, to where it extended just over the edge of the chine?

Squirt Fiberglassing Question

I purchased the Squirt Fiberglass Kit to cover the side, transom, and bottom and I am to the fiberglass stage in my Squirt build. My question is, am I suppose to cover the chine, transom, and keel joints with fiberglass before I do the large sheets, and is there enough fiberglass in the kit to do so...

Re: Hello

I'm also building the Squirt in Grand Haven, and there is another Squirt builder from Michigan who just finished his; glad to hear of more Michigan builders! Good luck and be sure to take advantage of the forum with any questions.

That's what it looks like I'll be doing, I can't find any shorter ones unless I order online. Should I stay with the 2" spacing or do you think I could go longer?

Nail Length (Fastening plywood to frame) PICS

So I am finally to the point of epoxying and screwing the side plywood onto the frame of my Squirt. When I began to mark the spots for the nails, I stopped and checked to see if they would go through the plywood and the chine, and sure enough they seem a bit too long. The plans call for #12 1" nails...

Re: boat project Winter 2012

Thanks for uploading that video, I had wondered how you made those modifications. Looks really cool, and sweet outboard as well! Do you have any idea what the top speed is?

Nice job! What kind of wood did you use for the decking? Looks sharp.

Re: Michigan Squirt Build

Thanks for the response. For the battens, I have already faired them but wasn't sure if I was suppose to compensate for the bending or not, but it seems I will leave them be so the hump will become part of the hull. You also did answer my other question. Thanks again!

Re: Michigan Squirt Build

Well I'm back at it, sort of, it turns out the weather here in Michigan isn't quite up to my epoxy's setting conditions. Anyways, I just wanted to go over a few questions really quick. First, is there a preferred placement on the chine for the plywood to meet? By this I mean directly in the middle o...
