We have guys all the time that over torque fittings. Most of the time, in a situation just like you have there, guys will take a short cut and not hold a back up wrench. My motor has a 1/4” hose coming from the oil pan drain. The hose is just long enough to stick through my drain hole which is just in front of the motor.

I suppose that the bilge pump could be a model and not actually be functioning. I'm sure you will have all sorts into it just like the full scale one.
