Re: Newbie Engine Questions
Thanks to all who replied. Good answers here. I don't know why I didn't think to check with Mercury for installation docs. I went there straight away and found what I need. However, a question I neglected to ask in the previous post was whether the 95 SHP is adequate for this design. Having no previ...

Newbie Engine Questions
I've been researching engine options for my forthcoming Vera Cruise build and trying to find answers has been a challenge. So I am hoping that perhaps some of those answers can be found here. In the meantime, I will keep looking. Please bear with me. The Vera Cruise is designed for an outboard but h...

Re: The Princess Project
I just love that natural wood look. I am definitely going to try and incorporate some of that in my build. Probably not the whole boat because she's a different style, but at least as an accent. Great job!!

Re: Vera Cruise - Playing Around With The Boat's Shape
After I showed the two pictures to my wife, she said that the new design takes away from the retro look. Huh?? so I looked at the two pics for awhile, and said No Way! Then I looked some more, and then some , and then some more, and you know what, she's right! So back to the drawing board. This desi...

Re: Building a 21 foot boat in a 21 foot garage
Personally, I would consider building with the stem outward of the garage. Actually, after I posted my last message, I went and started looking at the various build photos for other Vera Cruise builders. They also showed the bow closest to the garage door. And after thinking it over I have to agree...

Vera Cruise - Playing Around With The Boat's Shape
So this afternoon, I thought I would play around with the design of the Vera Cruise. I like the overall appearance of the boat but there are a few areas I thought could use some changes. So I scanned the side profile from my study plans into my computer and then spent several hours cleaning up the i...

Re: Building a 21 foot boat in a 21 foot garage
So I have been thinking about my building form. The ideas presented here in this thread have gotten me part of the way there, however I have another issue to deal with. For some reason, the builder of our subdivision built the garage floors so that the back two feet of the floor is 3" higher than th...

Re: Cold Molding Instead of Plywood Sheeting
Whoa, wasn't expecting that many responses so soon. But Reading them over and considering what was said, I think that maybe I should go with the plywood hull and count my blessings that the work will be a bit less. :D I guess my experience with vac bagging in the airlines made me partial to the CM a...

Re: Barrelback update
Progress is being made. Finished the second layer on the sides. Now for a couple of layers on the bottom Transom is finished. The vacuum bagging technique results in a very good finished product. I cant believe how tight it makes everything once you get the technique down. I'll soon be doing finish...

Re: Cold Molding Instead of Plywood Sheeting
Carl - I reckon you could change the boat from stressed plywood to cold molding. You will need to add more battens. You will then add 3-4 layers of wood to the battens. The boat will weigh more and may influence its performance. If you like the look of a mahogany side, you might consider veneering ...

Cold Molding Instead of Plywood Sheeting
Perhaps this has been answered in the past. The Vera Cruise is defined as using plywood sheeting for the hull. Looking at the photos by various builders shows this as the method used in those boats. However, I like the idea of cold molded more than the idea of using plywood sheeting. It just seems t...

Re: Building a 21 foot boat in a 21 foot garage
If using a moving platform to build on, any uneven places in the floor can cause the platform to distort. Be sure to level and brace the platform before fastening/epoxying any pieces. I leveled and screwed temporary legs to my platform so the boat would stay straight. Once the epoxy cured, unscrewe...

Re: Building a 21 foot boat in a 21 foot garage
A temporary shelter is out of the question. My HOA would never allow that. But the castered form will work. I think I can manage with that

Re: Building a 21 foot boat in a 21 foot garage
I looked at the diagonal option as well. The layout of my garage precludes that. But I've been doing some additional investigation and it looks like the locking casters and movable form are going to do fine. If I mount them away from the transom end of the form I can roll it out enough to provide cl...
