Re: Right boat for the Potomac River
Here is an update to my previous post. I was looking at some photos of the Harry Nice Memorial Bridge. If I wanted to boat farther downstream from this bridge, I would most definitely be looking at an inboard cold-molded design. That really is some big water down there. I'm not saying that the small...

Re: Right boat for the Potomac River
I As far as running on the Potomac river, it depends on the weather. The 3 boats mentioned are all pretty flat and will beat you up in rough water. Yes and this is because all three designs use plywood for the hull material. In a rough, afternoon chop, a plywood boat will do a considerable amount o...

Re: Barrel Back 19
How familiar are you with Eucalyptus? I used it with my teardrop camping trailer about seven/eight years ago. It's really strong and straight. It has a beautiful look to it although it's slightly pink. It takes stains of all types really well. HOWEVER!! There is something you should know and this ha...

Re: 20ft Texas Barrel
If you have room for both projects at the same time you're good to go - right? I mean, you have to start when the inspiration strikes. BTW, I saw a photo of you and Roberta playing guitars on Friday evening at the Gathering. You have to believe me when I say, I had the killer of all migraines that n...

Re: New member
Welcome Porgy, to our little corner of the internet. I think the Kingfisher is a great design. It can be built either as an outboard or as an I/O. I'm guessing that, if you want more bow flare, you are likely going to be using the boat in some pretty rough seas from time to time - maybe out in the o...

You may or may not know this, but it is unnecessary to post the same message on more than one board on this forum. That's because all the members that hang around here all the time, log in and then check "New Posts" up in the upper left corner under "Quick Links."

That's an excellent idea! I would buy a couple of gross of those things when mixing time comes around again.
Mark, please check that link that you posted. It isn't working for me.

Re: G-1 WEST
Ok, I'm just tossing ideas into the mix here. I know very little about the way things are out west but I did have this one idea. If it turns out to be about as valuable as a clay pigeon, go ahead and blow it out of the sky. Actually, we did a LOT of kicking ideas around when we moved from Guntersvil...

Re: G-1 WEST
...Home built boats are becoming more common at ACBS shows and we are very welcome to join. I think that I might know the reason for this and, if you think about it, it just makes sense. 1. Restorable classic boats are getting fewer and farther between all the time. 2. Even once they are restored, ...

Re: G-1 WEST
Folks? Tell me if I am wrong on this assessment. Anytime I’ve ever been out west and doing the touristy things, I have always encountered lots of tourists from the West Coast. I don’t think that I’ve ever seen any particular group with this amazing mindset where they will rush home after work on Fri...

AWESOME! That's just gotta feel great! Did the kids have a good time? ...and do you think that they will get the boat building bug too? It is somewhat contagious, you know. :D My dad used to take me sailing. He had showed me so many photos of sailboats that I knew ahead of time what to expect my fir...

You are like I am, Bill. The G's have become my high point - if not of the entire year - certainly at least of the summers. This year, I really wish the Canadian bunch could make it back - but only because they bring Canadian beer. It's not because we actually LIKE them or anything. (Yeah Right! ......

Re: Barrelback 20 4.3 ltr
Of course, Ken Hankinson designed this boat and I remember talking to him about it along about 1999. In fact, it was before he turned over the designs to Glen-L. He emphatically said that he designed the boat specifically for a V-6 engine and nothing bigger. He went on to explain that the boat was s...
